WR1 blob v blob STI

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me the difference between the WR1 blob and the sti blob.

I love the baby blue colour the WR1 comes in but it's fair bit more expensive the STI.

Thanks:thumb:

Has dccd and slightly more power than sti ppp, 316bhp I think. Also spec c style black interior, driving lights, prodrive alloys and its own colour. limited in number so is more expensive to buy. A my05 sti has the dccd and more improvements over the my04 cars, also will get one for less money than a wr1. I got a my05 jdm sti for less money than a wr1 and is altogether a better car. But it depends if you like the ltd edition part of it.

I can't agree more with you!
I definitely would have bought a JDM MY05+ STI

Thanks for lcearing that one up for me mate.

Whats the standard bhp in the JDM STI? I assume more than the WR1?

wrathchild_78 18 August 2010 12:45 PM

if i'm not mistaken it's less but has a PCD of 5x114.3 which is much better than the old 5x100 and some other changes like rims of 17x8 (instead of 17x7,5), different interior console, different internals, wider track and other minor changes. Concerning handling, cornering, steering wheel feeling, everyone says that its way better than all previous impreza.

same out the box, but a much better turbo... a twin scroll roller bearing that spins up way faster then the WR1's.

Result, more responsive with I think higher torque as well?

wrathchild_78 18 August 2010 01:13 PM

i believed that twin scroll turbos were used on spec c only.

scooby1929 18 August 2010 01:14 PM

The WR1 never made their quoted BHP on a rolling road. Think Subaru were a bit optimistic on the 320bhp.

Not at all. All 2002 onwards JDM have them.

The Trooper 1815 18 August 2010 04:14 PM

WR1 Special Colour, Ice Met Blue but then available on the Hawkeye.

320PS/310lbft. 0-60 = 4.25 secs (Claimed), 0-100 = 10.67 secs.

Quicker in 4th and 5th than the Type UK STi.

PFF7's with Pirelli PZero 225/45, Stainless mesh grills, special gear knob, painted and revised front driving lights, mats and tax disc holder (numbered of 500), anthracite suede interior, revised ECU, DCCD, sport cat and silencer, Prodrive developed springs and bump stops and Ģ29,995 list and sold out in weeks. UK only car.

Hope this helps.

I did buy one, great cars . Dccd etc etc. Steve.:thumb:

Even the MY03/04 JDM cars are better than a WR1 ;) the 05 put the icing on top of the cake though, if you had the option between the Wr1 and ANY MY05 STI, it would be the MY05 STI as its a better set up car.

believe due to the rareity their hold theai price more and not so common either

JDM's are rarer ;) better equipped with better mechanicals :D and of course, quicker on that 1/4 mile ;):D and actually come with over 300bhp without having to be mapped up from 262bhp :thumb:

which jdms are dolng well over 500 on standard internals? just remind me again tony;)

TonyBurns 18 August 2010 09:23 PM

There are a couple on there ;)
I can mention Richard Bulmers MY02 Spec C thats running over 500bhp, there is a twin scroll spec c (cant remember who owns it) running about 550bhp on standard internals.
Most uk cars pop their clogs as they dont have the oil lubrication of the twin scroll crank either ;)

love to know this spec c doing over 550;) never heard of one? 490 with nitrous from bulmer yes;)

TonyBurns 18 August 2010 11:18 PM

Scoobytysons old MY05 Spec C wr limited was 485 with nitrous (460 on pump fuel), still looking for that other one, its on here somewhere, richards car was 500 without nitrous I think, need to find his spec :lol1:

Tony:)

andythejock01wrx 19 August 2010 12:28 PM

Might sound a bit daft, but how do you identify a Newage JDM STi compared to a Type UK. If the Uk has been debadged do they look identical?

Are they more much more expensive to insure (I already have a modded Scoob with A plan)?

IPALMER 19 August 2010 01:15 PM

tinted side and rear windows

rear wiper

Insurance should be very similar if you are already with a specialist ( A plan , Keith Michaels etc )

daz1968 19 August 2010 01:27 PM

I have just bought a jdm, insurance same as a uk sti non ppp, ppp uk car would have been more for me. Easy to spot due to rear wiper, rear tints, defi style clocks, indicator stalk on the right, auto intercooler spray button amongst quite a lot of other items, Service book and handbook will be in japanese as well,

There very quiet with the equal length headers .All i hear is the standard dump valve and Vf37 spooling up

andythejock01wrx 19 August 2010 06:56 PM

And they have no burble but sound kind of bike like, right?

buff01 19 August 2010 08:01 PM

does it really matter what impreza it is???? at end of you either like subarus or you dont!!!!! the extras are all added extras to which you could adapt to either impreza, so just go and enjoy the car you have

TonyBurns 19 August 2010 08:30 PM

Well it does matter ;) different cars do different things, the JDM's have better power delivery, in gear pick up, less lag etc and to show you where they have improved, the MY05 cars (STI's) use the geometry setup originally developed on the JDM Spec C car ;)

Most people want to buy the best car that they can, and specifications do come into it, things like the nitrided/drilled crank on the JDM's that you dont get on any other market car, that rear wiper (its a god send sometimes, shame I dont have it on the Spec C :lol1: ) but if you have a WR1, good on you ;) but like most special editions, they are out of date by the next year (just like my Spec C is, but I still love her :D)

Tony:)

daz1968 19 August 2010 09:18 PM

yes i agree it does matter if you havenīt already bought a car then a bit of info will make sure you make the right decision. Best to find out before you buy than after. If you already own the car and are happy with it then no problem. Some people would rather have a wr1 as its a special edition and highest powered uk car others would rather spend the same amount of money on a different model. Subarus all look the same to most but there is a lot of differences between models.

Rims on the WR1 are 18x8

Yup they are, but they are the Prodrive PFF's and not a standard wheel, the standard wheel was (is) the same as the normal STI but in anthracite (see solberg edition cars for more info as that is what a WR1 is), the PCD changed along with a wider track and geometry changes on the MY05 STI's, improved A-DCCD with yaw sensors.

Tony:)
