My Scoob gets a little tlc

Finally finished off my own car a couple of weeks ago after keeping the car off the road for 2 weeks.
All in, between cleaning / machine polishing / protecting I reckon there were around 24 hours spent on it...and probably could've spent more.

After a few little performance upgrades were fitted it left the wings and area around the upper front grill way below the standard I like to keep my car at, just one of those things when you're hanging over into the bay. Also it's been 18months since it was last properly done so swirls and a few random scratches have appeared...and you know how it is, one thing led to another, but drew the line at the finished articles in the last set of pics.

Not a bad base to start from

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z...ulAug10001.jpg

just general road dirt needing dealt with

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z...ulAug10002.jpg

So washed, clayed and left with this...looks decent

http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z...ulAug10003.jpg

but what I was after removing was this type of thing (the swirl lines the sun is showing, and the scuffs)

Around the front grill area was the worst so a few pics of where I've removed the grill and what it went from and to

Worked my way round the car which felt like took an age. No I never got everything out, but definitely feel that on the whole it was a lot better. On the downside I have noticed quite a few stonechips...again !!

I like the Blackfire range on my black paintwork so machined on the Gloss Enhancing Polish, applied a coat of Wet Diamond All Finish Paint protection and then 2 coats of Midnight Sun Paste Wax - all buffed off after each stage obviously. Oh, and painted my horn (don't say that too often ).

Alloys polished, tyres blackened, zorst shined up, etc etc etc. Engine bay was dealt with a few months back so it just received a quick wipe down just after the grill went back on

After all that was done I felt like actually taking the car out for a drive. The weather was rubbish, dull and cloudy, so the first 3 pics really don't do the finish justice. Really really disappointed with this as the Blackfire stuff really gives the paintwork a crackin finish, so kept it clean and went out a few days after and got a second lot, you can see the difference when it's in the sun :

and a couple of days later when the sun came out.....

and one last one showing off the fleck in the paint that I've been asked loads of times about...

I like that colour, is it standard?

C_WRX 16 August 2010 08:22 PM

It is standard as far as I know.
Been asked loads of times about it, not sure if it was just the colour used as black for that year - at the time to me it was just black !

Nice work C_WRX.
Ive got the same colour WRX.
Any chance you could tell me what applicator you use with each product?
I spend 4hrs last Saturday (Clay, Gloss Enhancing Polish, All Finish Paint Protection, Midnight Sun Paste Wax and Deep Gloss Spray Sealant) and couldn't match what you got there...

Very nice work,

What Back box is that?

Cheers, and sure no problem. It may the paintwork correction that has brought out more of the colour, removing the horrible swirls which can dull the paintwork, but the gloss will fill nicely I believe.
I got all the below from polished bliss.
Gloss Enhancing Polish - Lake Country glazing pad on my porter cable machine.
Wet Diamond All Finish Paint protection - applied with Blackfire ultimate applicator pad (yellow side I think)
Midnight Sun Paste Wax - applied with a different Blackfire ultimate applicator pad (yellow side I think) than the wet diamond.
The deep gloss spray I just applied at the weekend after its first wash which was on a poorboys mega towel and buffed off immediately with a different one.

These help you out?....take it you're looking for a new one.
As I said the noise is more towards the lower end of Subaru exhausts, was mainly that that steered me towards it, but isn't anywhere near as quiet as the standard one. Looks wise shines up nicely which is a :luxhello: for me.

Great results mate you cant beat black cars when polished and waxed they look amazing:notworthy
Its worth noting that with a machine polisher do can achieve much better results than by hand.

Looks fantastic! I loved my old black WRX with the gold fleck!

What front grille do you have on there?

Got it from Subaru at a price that was waaaay too much, guessing at prodrive one ?? Out of all the types about at that time it was the mesh style I liked best, totally changed the front of the car, and then again when the splitter went on. The lower part sits further forward than others as well.

...and thanks again for the positive comment folks.
