Imagine what you'd do if someone gave you a car for a year. He'd thrash the nuts off it.

Personally, I'd garage it. As long as it's given a run every know and again it'll be fine. I garaged my old Golf for 6mths before I sold it.

I was told to watch for the brakes siezing and the oil settling at the bottom of the sump?!? Me mum drove the car to her work and back (20-mile round-trip) every month just to make sure the battery was charged and everything ticked over nicely.

If you knew you could not use your Scoob for a year (and mine's a UK300 with only 9k) what would you do with it, sell it, garage it, loan it to a mate or what... advice please.

Well you could arrange for it to be maintained and shifted around while it was in storage.

. . . ask the local Vicar to pop it around the block a few times every weekend ;)

garage it and leave the handbrake off, put it on axle stands so the tyres don't flat spot, disconnect the battery etc and it should be ok :) My friend stored his rolls royce on its tyres for about 18 months and they did flat spot but one blast down to the coast soon sorted that out. Brakes etc shouldn't seize on a car that age anyway. Is someone going to be able to keep an eye on it for you?

Best to find a good friend who will take it out for a decent blast once a month.

I would definitely lend it to a close personal friend who makes great hash browns for breakfast ....LOL:D:D:D

Seriously (first suggestion was serious too, if you're up for it;)) though, I would sell it if you can get a good price, bank the money for the year and rebuy when you return. That way you avoid depreciation, and gain a few £'s in interest too!

Yes i can confirm that it does.
My father has a truly ancient morris oxford circa 1936 which hadn't been moved for about ten years.
An enthusiastic mechanic we new tried everything to get it restarted without sucess till he completely drained the tank and refilled with petrol and she started first turn of the key.

:D the value will probably drop in a year so sell it and buy another when you get back - its not as if they are hard to come by:D

Seriously, I'd sell it. Even though it's garaged, it will depreciate so if you sell it now you could get something better in a year's time than if you sold it then (if you see what I mean).

Sell now, keep the money, buy 9k-old STi in 1 year's time.

Selling would probably be the most sensible option, but heartbreaking, especially since UK217 just proved herself v. an M5 (hehehehe) and do I really need to be sensible??

I too have UK300. A double garage. TWINS eh!!!! Now that would be nice, really piss of some of my married with ??? neighbours, having two in the garage. And right next to the R1 and the Aprilia.
Everything is security alarmed of course. (and central heated).
So where abouts in the USofA are you going? I have a nice home in Santa Monica (got back last week as the Scooby gets lonely, I have to commute cos of this u see).
Anyway, if your UK300 wants a nice home and a friend for a while then it can come and keep mine company. And you never know, maybe there'll be three when you get back ????

Limit the depreciation now instead of losing more on it...
No costs of storage, still got to be insured...

You could put in one of those car baby sitting places. Big warehouse type thing, where they keep it clean and drive it round the block every so often. Or you could give it to me.

Yeah I know sell it is sensible, but it would be heartbreaking, and getting a second scoob would not be a thrilling as the first. Still got a while to decide tho.
