3 port boost solenoid on an Sti: Worth it?

I'm getting a new turbo up-pipe put on my 03Sti and the map tweaked to suit, is it worth getting a 3 port boost solenoid at the same time?

Are they much better than the standard 2 port on the Sti?

Would be nice if it spooled up a bit earlier.

yes mate more than worth it

they hold boost far better than the standard 2 ports

and there only 70 - 100 quid

why did you need to replace your uppipe (have you went tubular)

cheers

3 port is a must.

I dont necessarily agree there Aladdin. (on the VF35 equipped STi)

Most often the maximum spool up that can be acheived without hitting surge on the VF35 can be done using the standard 2 port - there would be zero benefit of fitting a 3 port to get to the same point.

The top end boost 'may' be increased a little with a 3 port but I generally find that a 2 port will suffice and quite often boost doesnt equal power up there.

Different story on a WRX or an STi with a non standard turbo ....

Oh i see so the VF35 would be ok with the 2 port. When i had the MD turbo i decided to change to a 3 port as i didnt want any boost creep but i guess its different depending on what turbo you use? Another thing i noticed was boost creep on my other Impreza which had a VF23 & a 2 port boost solenoid, as soon as i fitted the AVCR that was cured. :wonder:

Also, if the VF35 is anything like a VF36, it doesn't matter if it's a 2 port or a 3 port, it won't hold decent boost up top.

Hmm think I will stick to the 2 port then as every penny counts. I never found it short of boost up the top since it was mapped, just not quite as quick to spool as i would like but this is probably the leaky up-pipe!

Almost definitely.
