Spec C bumper beam vs UK STI beam
Hi, does anyone know how much lighter the bumper beams are for a 2004 JDM Spec C compared to a 2004 UK STI blob?

Would have thought they were the exact same....

Just wouldn't have thought it was a piece of the car they would have wnated to make thinner/out of lighter materials.

Any news on this - where can one be sourced?
|
Speak to Rick at Subaru4You. They can source JDM parts
I've not got around to it yet, having just forked out £705 to on brakes just because the caliper bolts had siezed and had to be drilled out!! www.subaru4you.co.uk |
Damn the bolts! Thanks for the reply.

I have a jdm sti and I don't think there is a rear beam at all, looks to me like the bumper is just held on with a flimsy bracket. And the front beam should be lighter as well.

Thanks for the info. Any idea how the JDM kerb weight compares to the UK Spec 1470 odd ?
|
Just looked in the sales blurb that came with my 06 spec-c type ra translated into english says the vehicle weight is 1390 * reference value if thats any help.

Ok, so I need to find 80 kgs to lose - 1/4 of that may be me ! :)
|
Think list I saw was jdm sti 1460kg vs 1495kg of uk car, think the spec c of same year was 1390kg, but sure someone can verify the weights.

Cool - interesting stats. I'm pining for a spec C :)

Also, around 25kg (allegedly - not weighed it myself), is just the sound deadening on the floor of the car which is not easy to remove. Thus far I've taken off the front subframe (Spec C doesn't have one that I know of), the spare wheel, the under bonnet insulation (about 8g but was easy) and the undertray (which wouldn't reattach without the subframe anyway). Also meant that the wheel jack and tire wrench came out. Put it all on the scales and got 32kg, which takes my car below the magic 1400 (magic to me anyway!) That was all the easy stuff and I want my creature comforts like nice seats and aircon!! |
smaller fuel tank would be a waste anyway as just keeping less fuel in your own tank would save as much, same as the smaller windscreen washer bottle. Think lightweight battery can save about 10kg, but don't know if they are suitable for a daily runner in the winter. easier to up the power than reduce the weight, Or if you want a lightweight just sell your car and buy a spec c, I opted for jdm sti as I wanted the extra sound deadening and other luxuries on a daily runner but if it was for weekend use only I may have chose differently.
