Any good motor factors should be able to mix you some up

Did anything come of this ?

I've been trying to get the paint code as I've got one that's been very lightly scuffed - you can see the wheel is undamaged underneath the paint. Its just the paint that is scratched and chipped off.

I spoke to the dealer - parts said "you need a new wheel" and their body shop said I need a refurb.

I know I can fix it with a touch up stick. :hjtwofing

I've spoken to Prodrive who've given me a phone number for the manufacturers of the wheels (0121 525 6500) so I'm going to call them later but I suspect they'll just say "get it refurbed" too.

A quick update on this....

I called the number and its an outfit called Rimstar and the bloke said he didn't think they used a particular colour it was just what they had (whatever that means).

I was insistent so they put me through to the "technical section" where another chap was a bit more forthcoming.

He said the wheels are powdercoated and the colour come in the powdercoating.

He said they do a refurbing service that costs £46 a wheel where they strip the wheel back to bare alloy and re-powdercoat it. (I'm assuming that cost is £46 + VAT + collection + delivery) and I've no idea how they would match the colour so it looks the same as the other three wheels. :wonder:

So, I went out to Halfrauds and bought the closest touch-up paint I could find. The girl on the counter was very helpful letting me go out to the car with various sticks to get the best colour match I could.

I ended up with VW Storm Grey. It went on alright but it took 3 days (about 2 hours on and off over 3 days) to get it rubbed down, primed, topcoated and lacquered.

It seemed like a very good colour match when I had put the topcoat on but after I put the lacquer on, its quite a bit darker than the original. Still it looks better than it did and hopefully, it will stop the salt and crap getting underneath it.

Would I touch it up another time ? No. It cost £12 for the stick and 2 hrs of my time is worth more than the extra £60 or so it would cost to get it redone properly. If I'd been able to get a better colour match, it might have been worth it but probably not.

I'd probably just get one of those mobile refurbers to come do it.

Damn annoying though. 18s and kerbs obviously don't mix.

I have kerbed 2 of mine looking for Colour code too I will give them a call as well to see what colour code is or if you managed to find it could you please post that would be great ;)

vyore980 02 March 2011 02:37 PM

Rang Rimstock the manufactures and they wont give me code because it was a licensed Prodrive product so I have rang my Subaru Dealer and they are goin to check it out will update if I get the code.

Luckyscoob 02 March 2011 03:52 PM

Glad I am not the only one having problems with this code. Good job prodrive dont sell their cars, or we would all be stuffed if we scratched them!.

Anyway, I have been to my local bodyshop who can simply colour match it and do me a tin. Job done!

vyore980 02 March 2011 10:41 PM

Luckyscoob do you the color match code from you local body shop :brickwall

anthra_GT1 08 March 2011 12:35 PM

Hi guys

new around these parts, but found after doing a search for GT1 anthracite paint code on google. I have a wheel which is in need of paint, and the local refurb guy has mentioned VW storm as a close match but I want it spot on!

I've rang prodrive, been to the local dealer all with no joy. The dealer even said (as I've seen with others) to buy a new wheel or get all 4 done. The other 3 are spot on, there must be a code out there some where!

Did anything come of the paint code?

Littleted 08 March 2011 04:13 PM

get them mucky u wont see it :P

I had them on my WRX-S and kwik Fit shafted em on the inside cos they used a too short torque spanner so scuffed as they tightened. I eventually gave up and lived with it. But i agree annoying.

May i ask how do you find them at 70 and 80, i could never ever get the balance right tried 5 dealers, even subaru tried and failed, around 70 80 i had slight wheel wobble.

they all said it was the alloy :/ ive got a spare in my garage which is slightly offshape, IE u can hardly tell unless u spin it, I hot a hole at 20mph with a flat, any god wheel guy could repair it, ne1 wanna make an offer :)

lordharding 09 March 2011 12:38 PM

looks good...whats it say on the can?

jonny wilkinson 11 March 2011 09:12 PM

I get wheel wobble at 70-80 too. I don't think they're very good wheels. Either that or they overwhelm the hubs.

I've had two others say the same thing too.

I've not bothered trying to get it sorted as its only slight.

And VW Storm is a crap colour match.

anthra_GT1 12 March 2011 12:05 AM

VW storm is too blue.

Wheel wobble? Just keep the loud pedal down.....!

You obviously don't have to wobble along roads like the A12 where the traffic is such that going above 70-80 is not an option without rearranging your front end. :freak3:

Fantastic, would be good to know a code etc, as I managed to completely scuff one this morning :(

anthra_GT1 15 March 2011 06:37 PM

looks like they bend quite easily...which may explain some of the wobble some of you guys get..

You have PM mate Got a spare set of these i bought in a long time back:thumb:

jonny wilkinson 29 August 2011 02:24 PM

I know this is a bit of a thread resurrection but I've yet more problems with these wheels. What a pile of sh!te.

I drove through a minor pothole a couple of days ago and now the car vibrates like its being driven over a rumble strip.

I took it to a wheel balancing place and they said the wheels have flat spots and they can't fix it and the only choice is to take them to a specialist. So, basically, I pay a fortune to get the damn things straightened every few months or chuck them away.

Am I impressed with Prodrive ? They might know something about making cars go faster but they know diddly about making wheels that stay round
