Bug Eye Sport --> UK300 What would i need.

Hi guys,

I was originally going to be buying a white bug eye wrx look-a-like but the sale fell through. However all is not lost and i have the opportunity to buy a totally standard sport in black with low miles.

I would like to turn this into a UK300 replica, but what parts would i need?

Cheers

bigsinky 02 August 2010 10:43 AM

just to look like a UK300 or go like a UK300 as well

and the black Prodrive headlamps ;)

uk300 seats are rare as rocking horse poo, they're basically STI7 but without the pink STI stitched into them.

Remember to factor in the increased cost of insurance due to the cosmetic modifications.

As far as the insurance companies are concerned, you are making it more desirable to potential thieves !

If it looks like a UK300, it's just as likely to get stolen as a UK300 !

If you decided to do the modifications and not declare them, you might end up with invalid insurance even though you have not increased the vehicles performance.

Just a couple of points to consider ?

never thought of that 'TheVoices' thanks for the warning

Why not consider your own look for the car rather than a 'lookalike' WRX300 ?

There are lots alternative rear spoilers out there, some in good taste, some not so !

Plenty of different front spoilers / splitters and front lips as well.

Clear / smoked side repeaters can freshen up the exterior without going over the top.

If you keep it subtle you can achieve a great look, you can pick up a used WRX interior for a song or pay a bit more for the STi one if that is your thing ?

Another alternative is to buy some aftermarket front seats of your choice and get the rear seat recovered to match.

You can either buy a WRX bonnet with the scoop fitted or add a scoop of your choice if you want that look, some of the aftermarket scoops can be 'bonded' rather than having to cut the bonnet.

Depend what wheels are on the car already but if you want to upgrade them there a lots of aftermarket / replica stuff on ebay or look on the classified ads on here for some genuine ones ?

The 17" WRX alloys are usually good value second hand as owners often upgrade to 18's.

Lowering springs are quite cheap if you want to get the correct stance but please keep it sensible, nothing worse than the 'lowrider' look !

A replacement backbox for the exhaust is easy and cheap to do, might not give much of a power gain but looks the part, I think (but don't quote me) that the WRX backbox will fit so a used 'Prodrive' backbox can usually be picked up cheap.

Once again, try to avoid the 6" diameter welded on baked bean tin efforts if you want to maintain your 'street cred' !

Always check with the insurer to see what view they will take, might even be worth shopping around some of the specialist brokers to see what the difference would be to insure a standard UK WRX compared to a 'modified' 2.0 Sport, maybe do a limited mileage policy ?

Remember that you are not likely to get much of a return on the extras when you sell the car so think carefully before spending an absolute fortune making it look like something it isn't.

Best of luck !

i agree with the voices fair play if you want a uk300 replica but there are alternative cheaper options that can look awsome if done correctly and sensibly

samo 03 August 2010 09:03 AM

true, to be honest im not keen on the 300 spoiler so would get an alternative to that.

Soooo...after spending a fair bit of time last night browsing part and gallery sites iv decided to get the following (if i can source them)

HT Autos front splitter
Subaru rear diffuser/extension (no idea of the exact name for it)
Wrx/Sti Bonnet with scoop
Wrx Spoiler or alternative
Colour code the sideskirts
Carbon fog covers
Carbon winglets
17" Gunmetal alloys (not sure which ones yet though)
Lowering Springs
Backbox of some sort (any recommendations??)
Sti/wrx front and back seats

Overall i would prob spend no more than £1500 on the mods so dont know how realistic that is with the parts im after?

Steve001 03 August 2010 09:09 AM

where in north wales are you?

samo 03 August 2010 09:25 AM

Ewloe mate

Steve001 03 August 2010 10:05 AM

like a million miles from where i work in hawarden :lol1: i have some of what your after front a rear splitters/defusers not aftermarket HT but Subaru SPT.

and a back box TSL firstorm :D

samo 03 August 2010 10:10 AM

It's called sh1te, why would you want to make your car look like a UK300, they're fecking ugly things!

samo 03 August 2010 12:36 PM

each to their own

True, i'm only messing, seriously why not leave your car standard and save the cash until you can afford to buy and run a turbo? You will never get the value of the mods back when you go to sell it on, and it will actually put a lot of people of buying it, remember the sooner you save the sooner you get a turbo:thumb:

samo 03 August 2010 12:52 PM

i see your point..but for the foreseeable future thats pretty much out of my reach..im currently driving an MG ZS 180 which is the 2.5V6 model, and it costs a fortune to run..i only do around 30 miles a week and dont really need a car thats as powerful.

Im at the point a want a new car, and have always wanted a scooby, so i thought why not...im just not a big fan of how a stock sport looks, seems limp compared to the wrx's/sti's etc. Il be keeping the scooby for a fair few years to come, so why not have it how i want it looking etc?
