i phone 4 set up

I've just bought an iphone 4 earlier today. I've downloaded i tunes and plugged the phone into the computer but the computer comes up with an error message that says 'make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later' Any ideas?

Stop kidding yourself

Nokia are going to be a thing of the past if they don't adopt android, its a two horse race and only iPhone and Android will survive. Other manufacturers will just churn out pikey PAYG handsets for the mass unwashed.

Anyway, congratulations on your iPhone purchase, sorry you're getting set up problems but once its up and running you wont regret it :thumb:

Can you connect to the iTunes store?

Might just be easier to give applecare as Ive always found them to be excellent. UK Number is 0844 209 0611

Jimpreza 24 July 2010 09:41 PM

Cheers for the reply. I've just been on Apples support website and typed in my serial number. It states 'We are unable to display coverage details because your iPhone has not been activated. Please contact your iPhone retailer or wireless carrier to activate your iPhone'.

This is a nightmare as my old sim doesn't work now and I need this number for my business. Phones 4 u better be open tomorrow.

Apple marketing, if you do not own an Ipod, society will consider you poor.

lol, clueless - adopting Android would spell the end of Nokia.

Make sure the computer is online. If iTunes can't talk to Apple then you're phone won't be activated. If you can get to the iTunes store and browse music or videos then you should be good to go.

It's online as I have been on here also. I can't get on the itunes store either. My daughters ipod touch works fine. I think the nobs in phones 4 u have not activated it. My other sim that was in my Blackberry was canceled immediately.

JackClark 24 July 2010 10:33 PM

If you can't get on the iTunes store then that's your problem. Is something blocking it like a firewall maybe?

JackClark 24 July 2010 10:34 PM

Definitely call Applecare, they'll talk you through connecting to the Apple Store.

Hopefully they'll be open tomorrow. So because my computers aren't working properly (I,ve tried on both my laptops) this means I can't use my mobile so may loose quite a bit of business.:cuckoo:

You're phone can only be activated thru iTunes, the phone store should have mentioned this to you.

If iTunes cant access the internet then you are right, you cant use your mobile. Do you have a third party firewall that may be blocking iTunes?

Do speak with AppleCare they should be able to help, immediately that you have a few options :-

Do you have access to another computer to install itunes on? I once activated a friends new iPhone when her laptop was in for repair.

Are you near an Apple store? they will gladly activate your phone for you.

If its a case of losing business, surely the cost of a cheap PAYG phone from a 24hr Tesco until you get your iPhone sorted out is justifiable ?

I may be able to install itunes on my works computer on Monday. I am also self employed and getting a cheap phone won't help as I need people to be able to contact me on my phone number that is attached to my iphone 4. No Apple store near me I am afraid.

I've just tried to download the latest itunes and my computer won't let me. I didn't have a problem when I downloaded itunes on the same computer in December 2009.

Then it's your pc that is the issue here. Do you have a security program installed that does your anti virus and firewall protection?

Can you download any other files from the internet?

I've done all that works a treat, but when I delete the emails they are still there in Hotmail, am I missing something?

JackClark 25 July 2010 11:16 PM

You're missing a good email provider, change to Gmail while you can. Hotmail is using POP3 which is why it's not synchronised, it's a bit rubbish.

Jaybird-UK 25 July 2010 11:53 PM

I have my own exchange server, even nicer way to do iPhone mail :)

Oh right so that's why they aren't coming through automatically like they did on my Blackberry, instead I have to connect to my email and check manually. Is there anyway I can get emails to do this as I don't want to change my email account as I am self employed and everybody emails me on my hotmail address.

Bravo2zero_sps 26 July 2010 01:35 PM

Yes, you can have a gmail account and set it to collect all your hotmail email. That way you manage all your email through gmail, it will mark it as read on the server when you look at it on your phone etc. You can also set it so that if you need to reply it will reply though your hotmail address instead of the gmail one too.

Cheers. I've set up a Gmail account. Will this collect my email permanantly as it states that it will only do it for 30 days?

Bravo2zero_sps 26 July 2010 03:20 PM

Not sure what you are seeing but no the email will be imported by gmail as long as you have it set in the options to do so, there is no 30 day limit.

Jimpreza 26 July 2010 04:09 PM

Yeh I went into settings in gmail and directed all the email from my hotmail account but it says only for 30 days.

JackClark 26 July 2010 08:17 PM

Use those 30 days to email all of your contacts telling them of your great new email address.

Go to hotmail.com and add an autoreply that tells people your great new email address.
