ive just bought a ...

hello ...a 2003 93 hot aero ...after selling my 2004 impreza wrx v-limited.i thought id have a change ...firstly its pretty nippy for factory at 210 bhp....so after a couple of days i thought id see how much it does to a tank!....i filled the tank up, £60 is a full tank in this ....and its done 110miles with just under a half tank to go ...that pretty bad ...my scoob done 250 miles to the tank ...looks like its gonna struggle to do 200 miles and its not even a racer ....also its automatic.

whys it so juicy,?

ive asked the people on the saab forums there just sayin ...get the dealer to look at it ! ..

cheers guys

The reason is that is an automatic plus all the strengthening (and extra weight) that they have to build into a cabriolet to keep it rigid. :)

Does this car have tiptronic selection or do you use it in full auto? How often do you use the kickdown? Where do you drive it? :wonder:

To be honest you do not buy an automatic car and expect good fuel economy.

It's the autobox that's making it thirsty.

Its a 1992. But then again my classic scoob weighs a whole lot less than my merc, and with a smaller engine. Be very lucky to average 25mpg in that. See aint turbo`s great.

I had a 1996 Saab 900 Turbo and it was ridiculously bad on fuel, the economy was always in the teens no matter how I drove it.

The higher spec Vectra's are ok on the inside, it's just everything else that's sh!te. :D

bigsinky 21 July 2010 07:48 AM

That about 11 gallons of fuel making your car do about 18 mpg. I manage to get a steady 25mpg out of a 4.0L Lexus LS400. definately summat wrong there.

First of all do a proper brim to brim test, don't rely on the gauge to tell you how much you've used.

The combined on these is 31mpg but urban is 20, so if your wife is just using it around town then your 'guesstimation' is about right.

My neighbour has a manual hot aero and gets close to 36mpg (just asked him). His is mainly Motorway to work and back.

An Auto around town is a definite NO NO!!!

Yup, would be my guess, it is heavy, turbocharged 200+BHP (not an LPT) and automatic and i guess it was a bargain, wonder why that is then...;)

My father liken them to driving the living room sofa.

I think that's a bit harsh myself.

There's worse about.

My old supervisor had 3 Imprezas then bought an automatic outback. What's all that about.

I have a Saab Viggen Convertible, so with the heavier car from it being a convertible and a turbo charged 2.3 engine putting out 230bhp, I was expecting worse than the 32mpg I seem to average.

I have seen as much 35mpg, and as little as 25mpg from a tank full.

Not bad for a 10 year old car, with 118k on the clock!
