Thanks to you & Musti for the R180 diff on the weekend mate :) |
Its been a while since I lasted updated, but the project has now taken a major step foward the shell is undergone some major work, including a full wire tuck and engine bay re-spray, and the drivetrain has been fitted to the car - I ended up swapping my PPG setup with Clive's 6 speed setup from his track car (Mad HAmmer).
The long engine was completed last month... The workbench with all the goodies... http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0008.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0025.jpg Although the block came back from Lateral spotlessly clean after the rear thrust conversion and rebore, we thought it would be best to give things a quick clean just in case any grit or dirt was picked up in transit... http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0010.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0011.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0029.jpg Once everything was clean to a standard assembly of the short was started, bearings, etc were lubricated using graphogen... http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0030.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0031.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0035.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0038.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0041.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0043.jpg After speaking to several Tuners, including Wiseco themselves we decided to gap the rings to the following : Top Ring = 0.0050" and "2nd Ring 0.0055" http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0045.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0046.jpg The short Motor was then pretty much ready for the heads, so the Cosworth stud kit was installed alongside the headgaskets, the heads were tourqed down exactly to Cosworth's instructions... http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0052.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...R/DSCF0051.jpg The end Result..... http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...5_330003_n.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w..._2437962_n.jpg http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w..._8236771_n.jpg |

You sure about those ring gaps, they look way too small!!

That's better. Wondered if you meant that, but thought it better to ask, than let you run it with those ring gaps

No vernier pulleys to dial the cams in with?
|
Would have loved some nice rcm vernier pulleys but i can't squeeze them in to the budget, I will most probably upgrade them when I have car mapped for race fuel, the oe pulleys will have to do for now..
|
Omar how about the CDF vernier pulleys, they are pretty reasonable :)
|
Mine has run without verniers for the past two seasons, for your targets you don't need them.
|
Hi mate loving the work so far but would it be better to replace the plastic cam pules for the early metal pulleys just to be on the safe side ?
|
Ace work Omar!

this is the rubber dingy rapids brooo

If you've gone to the expenses of buying cams, then it would be worth dialling them in too. If you can pick up a few hp and ftlb and put a bit more area under the dyno graphs, then I would see it as being a worthwhile exercise Omar - you might want to measure where your centrelines are on stock pulleys, to see how far out they are. A before and after comparison on the dyno would be interesting to see :) |

It's more about minimising your losses though, and improving on the efficiency of the motor....

Hi Omar,
Nice build so far mate, Our pulleys are used on 9 of the USA rally team cars. Simon (jgm) also has them on his car and Rich (FB tuning) has seen these first hand, I am sure they can vouch for the qualtiy. We are also currently making some pulleys for Andy forrest drag car. We only use good grade hard anodized alloy for all our cam pulleys. You said about maybe fitting some after, if you do this you will need to remove the engine to dial the cams correctly either that or you will have to use them in stock postions - this will still be better as those bakerlight ones are very weak. You are more than welcome to come and view some to inspect them. The ones with stainless centres retail at £550 or our titanium true lock ones will be £900 as we havent released them yet. Drop me a pm and i'll do you a good deal :thumb: chris |
very tempting you dont want to be thinking what if.... just get em omar youve come this far :)
