Hotmail Spam mails

I have a hotmail account,only had 2 contacts,luckily.

anyhoo, started getting a failure notice to a guy in my contacts, luckily the email address is dead, hence the failure notice, but it showed i tried sending a mail with the link www.medspharmacytabletsguide.com in it

now,its been sent 2 days on the trott to both my contacts at times when my machine is OFF

i have recreated my profile on the p.c and done full scans of spyware/virus etc etc and nothing, even cookies came up clean

so,is it a hotmail problem or machine problem ??

google returns others had the issue too with same results as me i.e virus on machines = 0 but no solutions

for now, i have delted both contacts from my hotmail but more curious now

so,anyone else had this ?

cheers

mines been doing exactly the same, only getting about 8 per day so it must be a hotmail problem

Jamo 18 July 2010 11:31 AM

same here I get a few every day, its annoying.

The Rig 18 July 2010 11:36 AM

cool,in a way,its not an issolated incident then LOL

is annoying,i only knew about it as the 1 contact doesnt exist hence the failure notice, otherwise id be none the wiser, but the mails are in my sent items, which is weird,at a time the machines off, so i reckon the hotmail server itself is infected LOL

cheers guys

Yup, i had this a few weeks ago, although i never even use my PC anymore to read emails, i do 99% of my email stuff on my mobile.

This happened around the time i changed my work CCTV machine for a new one

I checked the home desktop, the laptop, my old work cctv machine (runs windoze xp, seriously doubted this one as it had been running for years) and the new work cctv machine (used to be my old home desktop, so suspected it might be infected)

The missus has not used her work laptop for a million years, so that was ruled out.

In the end i drew a complete blank, never found what was wrong at all.

Stopped getting returned mails though!

I do a get a hell of a lot of spam mail from "some****@live" at the moment though, really annoying, i almost feel like blocking anything to do with a @live email address.

Change your password and it should sort it. (If you mean that your hotmail is sending out spam/virus emails automatically)

Guys this is unlikely to be anything to do with your accounts being compromised.
All it is is someone using your email address in the envelope of a message to look like it came from you.
This can be done via any SMTP server that is running in Open Relay.
I get 'hit' about once a month, and sometimes I get 1 or 2 thousand 'bounced' emails because the spammers are using my company domain name in the envelope.
It's common practice for spammers to do this and 'rotate' the domain and user names used to avoid getting accounts 'blocked'.

Change your account password, this has fixed it for two of my family members recently.

Not an ideal method but i didnt need my 2 contacts,in my contacts list,so decided to delete them.

StickyMicky 19 July 2010 09:50 PM

I changed my password instantly.

All the mails that went out, went to my actual contacts.
