Fitting Coilovers?
Hello there,
I'm just wondering if anyone could give me an indication of how difficult it would be to fit coilovers on my 99 impreza turbo? Are there any guides or how-to's on how to do it? Thanks very much |
Hey mate, pretty stright forward to be honest.. just make sure you give all your nuts on your sus arm a good coating with WD or something before attempting to remove.. and you may need a breaker bar also.. but its pretty much remove and replace

yeah piece of cake even easier if your coilies have topmounts fitted just make sure you mark the camber bolts on the fronts so you can get it roughly realigned there top bolts iirc

It's as easy as fitting any other strut/spring combination. If you have done that before then coilovers is just the same.
As with any suspension upgrades, ensure that the wheel alighnment is done after though. |
Mine were fitted locally by a respected garage.
When I took it to Carnetix in Melton Mowbray, for geometry, they noted that the struts had been fitted 120 degrees out. I had to pay extra to have them refitted. |
has anyone done this themselves and what is it that needs to be checked ? tracking or is it a different kind of wheel alignment specific to suspension? and how much should you be looking at for that?

I changed mine recently and any previous settings will be lost so a full geometry set up is essential. Camber, tracking etc will need to be done front and back along with adjustment to the thrust angle, normal is about the £100 mark. You could use a camber gauge and a piece of string to roughly set it up but you should still get it checked afterwards. My last one cost me a very little as my camber settings were ok and the only changes were to the tracking and thrust angles.
