Subaru Legacy 3.0 R 2003 Onwards (Auto)
 

I wonder if anyone can help me please. We have brought a Subaru Legacy with a fault on it (code number P0700 and P1710 is the printout that was purchased with the car). Cruise is not able to be selected as the engine warning management light is on. After reaching about 35 mph then sport mode is not able to be used and flashes also the traction control and ABS lights are also on.

We have taken it to Subaru who checked the diagnosics for us but didnt charge nor did they give us a list of faults, they just sent us to their auto gearbox specialists who only came back with the P0700 code.

We have changed the oil, had the bottom of the sump off and the valve body out, to look for any loose wires (we couldnt find any).

Has anyone experienced the same problem on their Suby and what did you do to rectify this?

P0700 is a generic transmission ECM fault code, and P1710 is a 'Torque Converter Turbine 2 Speed Signal Circuit Malfunction'. What may have happened on your car is that the cause of the original fault was actually fixed, but for some reason the generic transmission CEL didn't clear from the main ECU, either because the garage that did the repairs forgot to perform the right reset routine, or the ECU was being temperamental. If your local dealer's no more help than you said, a good independent specialist or an open-source mapper should be able to clear the ECU code, and if it doesn't come back it would prove that the car no longer really has a fault.

Thank you for your reply. We have tried clearing out the code or a technical guy we know has, but the same problems keep happening. We wondered if it was a certain part or fault in order for us to rectify?

If you're still getting both error codes come back then either you've actually got a fault somewhere in the "torque converter turbine", or a fault in the sensor which is supposed to report its status to the ECU, or a fault in that sensor's wiring, or a fault in the ECU itself.

The best people to diagnose the problem further and actually fix it would be either a Subaru dealer or a good independent Subaru specialist. If you've read around this forum at all though, you'll probably have noticed that most of the tuners and so on who post here are primarily Impreza guys, so it's not obvious who to recommend. Whereabouts are you based, and how far are you willing to travel for the right service?

Hi, Thanks for your thoughts, we are based in Kidderminster, we would be willing to travel as far as perhaps Manchester if they knew what the problem was and plus the cost has to be taken into consideration. We were hoping that our Subaru dealership would be able to diagnose the problem and have knowledge of how to fix it but they didn't!!!
We just seem to be going around in circles at the moment.

We are based in Kidderminster, if we could find someone who could look at it and say yes that is sew and sew it would be fine, we took it to our local Subaru dealership hoping they would be able to tell us the fault and how to put it right, but they didn't so we are still none the wiser.!!!
Any thoughts please???
