YR 2000 CLASSIC UK SPEC IMPREZA TUNING

I am new to the Impreza scene and would like some advice on tuning my new purchase. My car is a year 2000 classic shape Impreza which has a prodrive ECU, exhaust and alcon brake kit from the showroom, its apparently running 270BHP but I have no proof of this! I would like to get as much power from the car as possible without blowing it up!

I have around a grand to spend but dont know where to start, I would appreciate any advice you have to offer and if you can point me in the direction of a good scottish based tuner.

Nearly forgot the car has 95k on the clock but has a full dealer history and has been owned by an old guy from new so its not been abused too much.

Thanks in advance

270 is prettymuch the max you will get without changing turbo. You could go VF35, FMIC, injectors etc plus remap to take you to 330 ish but keep some cash in reserve for when your gearbox dies ;). This power and associated torque level is also pretty much the maximum your engine could cope with.

You will need more than a grand to do the above, so you may be wise to spend the money on suspension bits (good that you have upgraded brakes). Andy Forrest Performance is one of best in country, based in Scotland, speak to him or look on his website.

BTW is your car a PPP? If so, without a re-map and decat, will be nearer 240 bhp.

Good luck

With a UK spec, I am running 300.1BHP with 310torque, on a TD04 hybrid turbo, I found that this set up was very good. But cost a lot more then a grand. To remap your looking at 650 ish. Then you have other bits to consider, like fuel pump upgrade, better air filter, (i'd stick with standard air box to be honest) just a better panel filter.

Think your best plan is to get a goal in mind, and not as much power out of it. Like say, you want faster spool, etc, so its a good fast road car.

Thanks for the advice guys, I suppose id better forget about the grand budget and go all out! Mr Chips could you let me know roughly what it cost to get your car up to the 300BHP mark?

I have emailed Andy Forrest and will let you know how it goes and what upgrades I end up with.

DNC I am a total newbie to the Impreza game so Im afraid I dont have a clue what a "PPP car" is, can anyone help me on this please?

Thanks again guys

PPP = Prodrive Performance Pack.

Prodrive PPP

The Prodrive Performance Pack includes an ECU replacement along with a 2 stage centre and rear box exhaust and a piece of silicon intercooler piping

Ah I should have known that! thanks, I believe it is a PPP car.

You will be in very good hands with Andy Forrest. Don't take too many credit cards when you visit him ;).

Good luck

If you have a grand to spend i would advise you to sell your prodrive ecu and exhaust .I have the same model year car as yourself and recently sold my prodrive ecu for £300,your prorive backbox if in good condition should sell for £100 - giving you £1400
You can buy a std ecu for £40 - 80,a vf 23/28 turbo like the one below:

cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM& hash=item2eae675e98

If you say £600 for your remap,then the £500 you have left is more than enough for your panel filter,3 port,fuel pump & decat + backbox,especially if you look in the 'for sale section on this site. These mods and remap should see you comfortably past 300 bhp,and potentially 310 - 330 bhp.

If you consider selling your ecu might be worth giving this guy a shout before you wack it on ebay:
