New Headers

Hello, Ive recently got myself a full 3" turbo back system for my bug wrx jdm, i'm getting all the parts a need for a remap in Nov ish. I was thinking of maybe getting some new headers fitted also, does anyone recommend any? will it any any more bhp then just fitting the exhaust system? I dont want to spend silly money tho.

Thanks Kev

I bought some cheap equal length headers an up-pipe of ebay for my last bugeye sti jdm they lasted the whole of 2 days tilll i blew a big hole in them on the flex bend. I then bought some roger clarke headers an up-pipe through scooby tecknix at fleetwood and they were awsome. they showed an 19 bhp and 34 pound of torque on the dyno. Not to mention they sounded great aswell. wernt cheap at 500 with fitting but in my experience you get what you pay for

Yeah that makes sense, I was up at scooby teknix the other week. Cheers Dave

That he is. PM him on here, he's on regular. The guy knows his stuff and is a genuine nice bloke.

I ran a set of Harveys Ported OE headers and up-pipe on my bug up to 400bhp. Ive since upped the ante and now run GT spec headers and Harvey Up-pipe.

That was the route Harvey advised me to take.

and I also do the RCMs headers to go with my special three bolt uppipe.
Your choice of headers, tubular, with performance designed three bolt uppipe or my ported with matched uppipe will be determined by turbo in use, spec and future intentions. Making the right choice is the key.

Hi Harvey, well its my first scoob so i'm going to look at keeping the current turbo on my JDM bug, not to sure what turbo it is, but when i will be upgrading it will be the VF35 and some pinks within the next year or so.

harvey 12 July 2010 08:19 AM

At that level you would be far better off with ported headers with matched uppipe than going to the expense of tubular headers which will need wrapped, if they are the RCMS type they will slug spool so on top of the expense of headers and wrapping you need the special uppipe so the total cost, headers, wrapped, uppipe and delivery comes to over £600 whereas exchange ported headers and matched uppipe is £381.50.
