Unfortunately your next step is quite a big spend. How far into 400 hp do you want to go? An FMIC isn't strictly needed until perhaps 420hp+. Is the car mainly on the road or will there be a lot of track & drag use? I forgot that some sort of air intake may be needed as well. Fitting the minor parts is about 5 hours but the expense will be pistons. They are recommended for 400+ on the 2.5 block. Moving beyond 400 hp and more beefed up parts will help the block last longer, but they come at a price. However, if the pistons need doing then there is an opportunity to add these extra items whilst the engine is apart. I'm surprised he's got 383 hp put of the VF43 and that there is any more to come. |

At a rough guess about 6k mate probably more, My turbo was £1800 and front mount was £1100, I got lucky with the ECU i bought a used one for £500, but all the other bits add up, clutch, injectors, oil cooler, up pipe, inductin kit, fuel pressure reg and some other goodies, its in scooby clinic as we speak, Then i have to turn it into a semi closed deck when i rob another bank lol, Its all good fun tho, I just hope its all worth it wich im sure it will be :)

Very expensive going above 400 on a 2.5.
Not really worth it in terms of £ per bhp. If you do go over 400 - your may as well go for over 500 as the costs are similar. |
Thats all talk mate dont listen to it lol He prob can get over 300 bhp but how long will it last???, my bro had a classic wich is running about 335, my newage was running similar, I have to say my bros is slightly quicker at the moment but theres hardly anything in it! Its probably due to the weight, and hes says hes got a good ratio gear box (personally i think hes lieing about his BHP lol) You can do it cheaper but i want all the supporting mods aswell so it is fairly safe. My bro just went for power the first time round and the engine went bang and was a expensive mistake, I dont want that to happen so i would rahter do it propely the first time round.

Chris 2132: have you thought of lightening the car instead of spending big on the engine for more power? Power to weight ratio is what it's all about and you can go for more power or less weight;)
My classic will be around the 400/400 mark once it's run in, (16th July) and remapped, (17th july) Yay! It will comfortably see off newage cars running the same power/torque since it only weighs sub 1250kg. |

Yea i no what you mean mate, I bought all the bits over 6months, If you buy a bit every couple of weeks it aint that bad, But i must admit its horrible handing over the money when buying the turbo and front mount lol, It was the 2 most expensive bits! I havent even started on the engine yet! I will stick at 400 bhp until i have the money for an engine build, My setup should be capable of running 500 bhp +, But i only use her on the road and iv heard 460bhp is just about right for on the road! What ever route you choose im sure youl enjoy! ;)
|
Personally I prefer 350bhp on the road. You can actually enjoy full throttle for longer.
