Anyone sold their car on ebay?
 

I have my car on Pistonheads but does not seem to be getting a lot of interest. Anyone sold on ebay? Whats the deal with classified adverts I assume its not like an auction. Do ebay still take a big chunk of money out of the sale?

Advertised the scoob on eBay, got a decent amount of people interested to be honest, but 95% of them were from this website :lol1:

I sold my Impreza within hours of putting it on PistonHeads - but, in reality, it was the link I placed on here which resulted in the sale.

The PistonHeads advert wasn't even live when the car sold - but it was a One Owner unmolested example ... they do not come along every day.

Have you tried autotrader? I would use ebay as a last resort as you get a lot of time wasters and stupid offers of part exchange, like a stretched granada:freak3:

Couple of reasons I can see why you have no interest ...

1. You have owned it for 4 months before you decided to sell - why? Alarm bells ring with any buyer when they read that as there are very few genuine reasons which could result in a sale being required after such a short time.

2. You state that it has always been washed properly - this should be removed as I doubt you knew the car intimately before you bought it?

Also, how many owners has it had ... with such a low mileage a maximum of 2 including yourself would be considered genuine - state what it is in the advert.

I have no idea about the price - you can buy brand new WRX HatchBacks for £15k with delivery mileage on .... not STi's granted, but they are not 4 years old either.

Agreed, that is a top end dealer price. If your not desperate to sell then leave it at that but you'll be lucky to get a buyer when you look at the price of cars that are advertised around yours. There are MY08 STI's for around that price mate.

couple of offers, and a local guy bought it without even seeing it.

It's on ebay for £15,350. I thought that was a fair price going on Pistonheads. Maybe I will knock the price down to £14,500 if I don't get much interest.

PSlewis. The main reason for selling is my tracker mortgage ends next month and I've been unfortunate that house has been valued way under purchase price and has put my mortgage up £500 a month. So owning a car and starting a family will be a bit tight. Selling a car after 5 months isn't always dodgy it's just circumstances can change so quickly.

There are hundreds of reasons for selling a car like this so quickly .. the main one being running costs ..

The fact that it has a main dealer warranty would suggest its a safe buy .. have an RAC check and you're pretty safe.

I had a 2007 57 reg WRX in immaculate condition, new set of tyres and full Subaru Service and I could not give it away! I have just given it to a dealer as PX I tried ebay, autotrader, pistonheads etc I was really surprised at how little interest I got.

I am glad I got a massive discount when I purchased it.

Ive sold many cars on ebay. The trick is a clear, accurate description, broken down in to interior, exterior, engine, known faults, service history, etc etc.

I then used photobucket, took 30 odd pics, of every angle, inside, outside, engine, boot, tyres, wheels, and uploaded them into the actual advert. You get 12 free pics in the advert.

I then did a best offer price, and made sure it ended on a Sunday. ( 7 day auction ). All my car's sold within 2/3 days. Obviously you get lots of silly offers, but hey that ebay.

As for pricing, well I tend to look at the dear ones, then at the cheap ones, and try to place my advert in the middle / top end.

pistonheads is free to advertise so you get a lot of people just testing the waters with ridiculous prices

which is good if you are realistic about your pricing because it will sell V quickly

I sold my Subaru (had the cash in my hand) within a day of my advert coming out

I would agree but I have sold many cars/motorbikes/vans etc on ebay but I just could not shift the scooby, the price was right, the condition, miles etc were perfect but could not move it.

When i first advertised a van on ebay about 6/7 years a go I put lots of photos on and a massive description and I was one of the only people doing this, most people just put one photo on. Now nearly every person is putting 10+ photos on so its difficult to make you advert stand out.

Every vehicle I have ever sold has had lots of interest and always sold at a good price except the scooby.

Yes the Scooby just seems so hard to sell. I've always sold other cars no problem. Maybe people are just thinking how much this car could cost them in the future. Wouldn't surprise me if tax will be £1000 a year and fuel costs at £2 a litre soon.

If you need to sell the car quickly you will have to look at the price.

You appear to be asking dealer money for a private sale.
