Web hosting: Small catalogue / purchasing?
 

Hello

My wife wants to set up a website to sell some products online. I've done this previously (even for a few people on here!) by either writing it from scratch with asp or using OSCommerce. But, well, I'm old and can't be bothered anymore.

Can anyone recommend a cheap hosting solution including catalogue etc..?

i use www.ukhost4u.com
Seem to be a fairly small company, only about 5 people on the support team, but they are good at responding, and fast too.

Offer a whole host of free ecom solutions, including oscommerce and a couple of other big names.

Cheap too, they have a pretty good 3 for 2 year deal.
I've not moved my shop over there yet, but will soon.

Thank you, I have set up an account with them. The control panel is a bit painful (can't create subdomains and some other things) but support is great and very helpful.

I took the 3 for 2 Advanced hosting (on Windows) with the 25% discount.

Did you get the Windows or Linux service?
I've had both and at the time preferred the Window Plesk control panel, but had to change to the Linux one.

Linux Cpanel is OK I thought... You certainly can add Subdomain in the Linux CPanel....
Its on the front page, scroll down to Domains - et viola

Once you create a subdomain, you can access it via FTP thus....
(open your FTP client....)
> Public_html
>You'll see your subdomain.....

at the moment




I cant remember how to do it on Windows, but I'm sure it's there...

Thank you for your help -- everything is in Plesk but for some strange reason I have to raise a support ticket to get the permissions on the account changed (three so far: Setting up email addresses, subdomains and web hosting for another domain), I'm not quite sure why they don't just set everything up to start with.

At least the support is prompt and helpful.

Yeah, I know what you mean - sometimes some of the restrictions dont make sense.

I've not contacted the helpdesk for months now - once youget it how you like it, it seems to work well, and it stable. Jut takes a little faffing initially.


Did you find the way to add a subdomain in Plesk?
