high performance cars for £20k ??????

i am thinking about getting rid of the hawkeye and going for something different. so far i have been looking at e46 m3's and e60 m5's (this would stretch my budget) are there any other good cars at £20k that i havent thought of?

stilover 05 July 2010 12:46 PM

Evo?
RS4?
RS6?

SPEN555 05 July 2010 01:07 PM

VXR8?

Turbo2 05 July 2010 01:18 PM

These look nice as alternative super-saloons to the usual German suspects, but maybe a bit over budget?

Seriously go have a look at mole valley group.

Bought a merc from there and had a good poke around. they have plenty of selection and all their cars looks pretty good condition!

Few morgans, porsches, tvrs, and nobles. The nobles look amazing in RL. i was surprised!

Im in similar position (up to 16/18k really) my ideas were:

tvr speed 6
tvr t350
e46 m3 (poss csl)
porsche 911
monaro
mustang
xkr
AC Cobra replica.

Matteeboy 05 July 2010 08:18 PM

BMW 335i Coupe (or saloon or touring)
BMW 335d
E55 AMG Merc
Newish S3

highly recommend M3 CSL. Not sure if they're in budget?

they still go for about £30k

Matteeboy 06 July 2010 12:10 PM

How about an M3 CS? Might be nearer £20k. Very good cars that are a bit more practical than a CSL.

Petem95 06 July 2010 12:29 PM

SLK 55 AMG? (circa 2005)

Think these can just about be got for £20k - 5.5 V8 with 0-60 in 4.7 and a cracking soundtrack!

BMW 645i? ~330bhp V8

Steve vRS 06 July 2010 01:36 PM

THIS is an awfull lot of car for the money.

Yeah the mustangs are tempting! Rouche mustang parked at work yesterday and my god that car has presence! Everyone looking out the windows at it!

There are a few M3 CSLs about for around 25k however they will be high milage.

Ive dont lots of research on the M3 front (as im going to buy one once scoob or focus is sold) and ive discounted the CS.

The CS is basically a normal m3 with a different rate spring, slightly wider track for CS rims (look like csl but not the same) & Geometry, quicker steering rack, and removal of steering wheel controls, and M-Track tcs which allows more play with tcs still on. All for a much higher price. Would be better off buying an M3 and buying some replica rims with spacers, and have enough left for a remap & induction or stereo upgrade.

What about 350/370z or

Z4M they can be had for 20k these days too! They are pretty rapid.

Ford Mustang 4.6l V8 ;)

Not that performance, but would be fun still I think.

hughes741 14 July 2010 11:59 PM

started to narrow down my shortlist this is what im considering up to now

bmw m5 v10
a late low milage e46 m3
vxr8

and one i wanted to know if anyone has experience on. should i consider adding an evo fq400 to that list

LG John 15 July 2010 12:51 AM

Get an MR320/40 and tune it to 400/400 yourself instead of getting the fq400.

jaytc2003 15 July 2010 02:07 AM

yeah dont bother with the fq400, get a 320 and tune that up, if you mod it to 400 it will be a nicer car to drive than the fq400. Will come in for a lot less than 20k as well

Would go for the v10 any day over the e46 m3. Had one for over a year and love the way it can be refined one minute, press a button and it changes into a lambo chasing animal :)

scoobyc 15 July 2010 12:41 PM

535d remapped? :) 335i remapped?

get the M5 as that is the best car in yr price bracket..... but beware of running cost though ...you will need deep pockets is something major goes wrong !!!!,
but its a great car , i really miss mine :(.
good luck with yr search.

sonu 15 July 2010 01:42 PM

forgot to add, warranty is a must on //M cars..

Matteeboy 15 July 2010 03:04 PM

the m5 would be about £24-£25k

LG John 15 July 2010 04:06 PM

E60's below £25k would surely be pretty ropey. Also, many of the teething problems were solved by mid-2006 and a car from that time frame (or newer) is usually £30k or more.

sonu 15 July 2010 04:16 PM

No prob getting a 05 M5 that's had the neccessary work done or warranty...
