stupid f'ing double posts

I wouldn't put axle stands or a jack other than the OE jack on the sides, the OE jack is designed for the sides, any other isn't and can damage it as i found.

Thanks
Sam

Use the rear diff as the jacking point and put axel stands under control arm mounting points

Saalro 01 July 2010 07:12 PM

Jack Here:

Or

A jack can raise the car on any of these 3 points, i have used them all with a hydrolic jack apart from the rear diff but loads of people say it's okay.

If you try use a jack other than the OE jack on the side bits this could happen:

:(

Thanks

Possibly, I didn't see them do it. They did have a 4 pointer there that had trolley jack sized fellas on it though. You'd think someone who trades as an Impreza specialist would make an effort with a grade 4 fresh import though. *******s.

At a cost obviously, but i've heard you can have them straightened and reinforced.

I just say when i go to garages now. I don't want it to happen to the other 3 or worse for the bent one just to cave in.

Thanks
Sam

I'd also like to know where the control arm mounting points are, every time I've jacked a car up I've used the side mounting points, so now I want to get it right after reading about the damage caused doing it this way

tathan 02 July 2010 03:50 PM

The control arm mounting points are, by definition, the points where the control arms (suspension arms/lateral links) mount. Anywhere that takes the full weight of the suspension will be strong enough and depending on what your axle stand shape choose somewhere that spreads the load. If you look at Saalro's first pic of the rear diff, the two mounting points either side I use (providing the front stands are spread out to give stability).

Or use the sill with a block of wood with a slot in it.

I've had an axle stand under the point where the right arrow is on the photo, i would be happy to place a jack stand under the left arrow too.

I've also jacked the car on the left arrow and put an axle stand under the diff, so if the jack fails it will sit on the diff.

As for pointing out the postion of the control arms i'm not sure, i thought the right arrow showed part of the control arm?

Thanks
Sam
