MAP sensor
 

Hi.. i need to de-tune my car for a bit, so standard ecu going back in and 380cc injectors back on.. i cant seem to find my old MAP sensor - my car is a 96sti currently with a later MAP to allow for more boost.. would it not be a good idea to drive it without the earlier MAP?

AFAIK, it shouldn't matter, as the std STi v.2 target boost (0.9bar? 1.0bar?), will be way lower than the later MAP sensor's target boost allowance.

Obviously you won't have the protective boost cut by not using the STi v.2 one, so glance occasionally at your boost gauge (if you have one) when on WOT/full load...

That said, it would be nice to reinstate the OEM MAP sensor, for that very good "saftey net" reasoning! ^^^

ok i see your point.. but other than potential issue at top boost it shouldnt be detrimental or lead to anything else? will only be like that for 3 weeks and a few hundred miles and am not planning on doing any racin :)

Yeah it'll be fine.

I PX'd my old 93 WRX and that had a Apexi PFC with its bespoke 3bar MAP. Car was mapped at 1.3bar leveling off to 1.1bar. I turned it down to 0.8bar prior to the transaction and it boosted to a max of 0.8bar with no problems at all. So it doesn't seem to affect the boosting up to the target at all.

As said, the MAP simply caps the max boost (as far as the BDC is concerned).
