what do i need to spray my new splitter and fog lamps??
 

decided im going to have a go at spraying these items myself,apparently they are ready to spray(white gel coat)or something like that,i think im going to order the paint from paints4u do i only need the paint and laquer?also anybody got a few tips for me so i dont mess it right up:) really appreciate it guys

A spray shop mate ;) Have been there and tried it and unless you have real patience and time and a dust free environment and 300 pieces of wet and dry then they will look arse. Just an opinion mind and i am sure there are those who are far better than i ever was!

trust me nothing that says ready for paint really is, and if you've never done it before you'll find it really hard to look right, i guarantee they will need filler first

i run abody shop mate and i can tell u that 'ready to paint' is bull**** and if you want the paint to stay on then you need a adesion promotor first like wet on wet primer,and like the chap said they always need filling and work to get them to fit right befor painting.Ryan

as above pal ive tried n failed i should have gone to a pro before but you never know they may turn out fine

Did it myself and am planning to repaint my spoiler later this week if the weather picks up a little (damp here today and tomorrow apparently)
I used a couple of sheets of wet and dry from med to 1200 grit. I rubbed the items down, primered then a couple of coats followed by a rub down with 1200 and soapy water, dried, sprayed and rubbed again then 2 thin coats of lacquer, did it just into the new year and they still look like new, no stone chips and colour is great.
I used halfords custom mixed stuff rather than an off the shelf colour as it is so bloody hard to match. had some paint left over and decided to rub the engine plastic down and give it a bit of colour too, heat hasnt affected it either.

Have you thought about carbon vinyl stuff instead? With patience you should be able to do it yourself

thanks for all your replies guys,after looking through alot of posts ive come to the conclusion that its better to leave it to the pros!lol brendy 76 looks like youve done a great job of yours mate!ive never done it before and i think ill end up fecking it up!prodriverules you got pm mate you aint to far from me!tathan dont really fancy the carbon fibre look,personal preference i guess,thanks again guys really appreciate your opinions

I guess noone would recommend stripping and spraying their alloys either then :D

You have done a cracking job there mate. I too spray alot of my own parts and have had some really good results. I have just finished spraying my new splitter, fog lamp covers and rear spats, trying to find time to fit them now.

I would recommend that ant large parts spoiler, doors etc should be done by the pros but little bits like fog covers etc have a go yourself. As long as you spend time on the prep then you should get a good result. :thumb:

ive just had enough of looking at them sat in my shed,and i really have not got the foggiest when it comes to spraying,taking it to prodriverules on saturday so ill get pics up when its sorted,also just hand my windows tinted today!look amazing only £140 and he came to me so really chuffed,also waiting for my sti spoilers to arrive!should be any day now,brendy 76 fair play mate you done a cracking job on your wheels!was it very difficult?waht sort of money has it cost you in materials?
