Bad idle, hesitation and error codes 51&33

Hi all still trying my best to get my car ready for the mot, almost there but have problems, the car just wont idle properly at all, it flashed up the CEL and i connected the wires which flashed up code 51 neutral position switch and code 33 vehicle speed sensor, basically can anyone tell me if these wil be causing my idleing problems and hesitation when you touch the pedal( only revs to about 5k then splutters badly seems like its holding back quite a bit) and secoundly can anyone tell me where to find them on my vehicle plz.:wonder:

ok managed to find some back ground info on code 33, linked to the speedo, seems like this only means that the clocks are faulty and will have no bearing on my idle issues,

Code 33 doesn't mean "that the clocks are faulty", it means the speed sensor head, or its cabling, is faulty and isn't sending a speed input to the ECU (or clocks)

The speed sensor sticks out the right hand side of the gearbox main casing. The neutral position switch is on the centre diff housing, as is the reverse light switch. The wires for all run up and, depending on what MY you have, connect to the engine bay loom via connectors underneath the intercooler.

If both the neutral position switch and speed sensor have failed at once, or if you've had the car in pieces, I would suspect a wiring/connection issue rather than that both have failed at exactly the same time. As a matter of interest, when you put the car into reverse, do the reversing lights come on? If they don't, it sounds quite likely that they've all been disconnected for some reason (taking the gearbox out for example), and not plugged back in.

Both can influence idle to a small degree - although code 33 will instigate limp mode, which probably explains why you appear to be saying that the engine won't rev.

I have not tried that as the car is on axle stands as i aint had the car on the road, i will give it a try tomorrow and thanks for your help, any ideas what could be causing the idleing probs, i have had a go at adjusting the icv whilst the car is running and this does not seem to effect it really, sounds fine for a few secounds then it starts to drop off and will eventually stall if you dont rev it,

Ps the car brielfy fired uo code 23 ( maf sensor) the other day and i have a replacemt which was not that old that i fitted and this diesnt seem to have any effect on the problem either.

Followed Splitpins advice?
The 33 and 51 codes should be an easy fix.
Try and do it systematically.
