wiring up Time clock help?
 

my classic has the cup holder in the centre console but i broken the bit that goes round the stereo so i got a new bit on ebay but this one has a time clock where the cup holder bit would have gone.

the thing is i dont have the part of the loom to power the clock so i need some help knowing what the wires on the clock do.

there are 4 wires coming out of it

red, black, yellow and blue
im assuming red is 12v and black is ground
and guessing yellow is ignition
but end got a clue about blue

i might have them all wrong just wondering if anyone else had wired in a clock without having the plug on the loom?

My GUESS would be:

Red: PERMANENT live.
Yellow: Switched live, ie from ignition.
Blue: lighting/sidelights.
Black: earth

do you think i could run the clock from the stereo wires eg. splice the wires from the stereo loom as it has red, yel and black and connect them to the clock save me making a new loom for it?

if blue is lights, then it would just be the dim part to the clock?
it has a button on the clock for dim anyway so might leave that one off

oh no, i just went to wire up the clock but there is accually 5 wires. i forgot bout green one. now i need an other wire to figure out.

right i got the clock to come on by black as ground and yellow as 12v constant live.

tried putting my 12v wire with the other colours but nothing happens.
anyone have any ideas what red, blue and green wires do/for?????

i cannot figure this thing out. and its just a stupid clock

what happend to good old red and black wiring

One may be for lighting, one for dim, and one for switched live.

ie: your clock is live permanently, so it remebers the time, but you don't want it glowing away all night, so the switched live wire switches OFF the display.

The other two could be for lighting and dim lighting, but how that works is not easy.

right so i want red wire always constant 12v to keep the time
yellow on ignition to turn clock on
black ground

but ive put a 12v wire on green and blue and nothing happens no extra brightness or backlight.

im just gonna give up on it tbh.
this had wasted loads of my time just to know the time while im out driving

Where did the clock come from? can't you get any instructions from the seller?

Clock wiring is as follows:
- black=earth
- blue=battery/permanent +
- red=lights-on/clock-dim
- yellow=ignition on/switched live

I used mine as feeds for fitting my boost gauge, as it has a peak-warning memory and the backlight colour changes with headlamps on. :thumb:

As Mark said & the green is a live when you press the "bright" button :)

thank you to both of you i was done with it tbh but as you know what all the wires do i will wire this up properly. atm i just have live to yellow and black earth just to have it working but i will fix it tomorrow.

See, this is what gets me: BLUE for permanent live and RED for lights? When most things use the reverse? Why change it?

Did it work as it should after you wired it as above?
Got to fit one myself.
