Suggestions on getting USA maps for Garmin?

Anyone got any ideas. Its been suggested to download them but dont wanna get there and find they are no good.

I can buy one at Walmart once I get there for about $70 if i need to, but just looking at options for getting the maps for our Nuvi 205

Can't help mate, I'm a TomTom man myself.

Not too long to wait now eh? :)

Snazy 20 June 2010 11:03 PM

No worries mate.
I am probably gonna buy one out there, but just incase, I can rent one for £21 for the 2 weeks from the UK.
Covering all the bases :)

Lol and nope, not even a week to wait now, woohoooo.
Heatwave there is dying down now, and the rain has begun

I have a Garmin & a Tom Tom.

The Garmin map download cost me about £50 a couple of years back and that covered the entire USA and Puerto Rica. Check out the cost to download vs renting, if you intend to travel to the USA fairly regularly [like I do] It's well worth buying the map as you have it 365 days a year and also get several upgrades included in the price!!

Map price is £122, so a total false economy. Better off buying a unit out there lol.
I originally thought buying the maps would be a better option.

The only issue you may have is how to navigate from the airport to your accommodation.
You won't be able to buy a Sat Nav at the airport!

I'm quite familiar with the area anyway, and the Walmart is 2.6 miles away. I reckon I can manage that without too many dramas lol (I hope)
Worst case, I will rent one for a day from the rental desk for $10

I bought a lifetime download upgrade for my Garmin. Its has been a nightmare to download-so much so,that i've been on the holiday where i was going to use it:brickwall.
No reply from Garmin customer service as yet also...avoid!

I have always liked garmin, but never tried to update one.

Im torn at the moment. I have 2 ideas, 1 rent one in the UK for £30 + return postage, so say £40 in total. Or buy a s/h one TomTom loaded with UK and USA maps for £75

Decisions decisions.....
Need to decide in the next few hours to get it in time.

I thought you would sit by the pool ogling, as usual Snazy. Why do you need navigation for that?

Les :D

Snazy 21 June 2010 12:20 PM

lol I dont know what you mean Les.
We usually cover about 1500-2000 miles when we are out there :)
Got some other plans this year so will be zipping about all over the gaff.

Although I like your idea too, lets see what the neighbours look like this year before I go dashing off anywhere.

Have a great time anyway Snazy, well worth seeing as many of the sights as you can. Its all pretty impressive as you will know anyway.

Les :)
