Max Power from Apexi cone
What power it the Apexi conefilter rated?
I have it on my MY99/00 with Q45 MAF, ECU is the Power FC. Thanks in advance for your replies! |
I have heard its around 400-450bhp mark but don't quote me on that!
|
hmmm that seems to be a problem for me then... ;(
so I will have to get a k&n innerwingfilter (productname RU-3620) due to using a Hybrid FMIC. |
any proofed information about this?
|
anyone?
|
yes seen over 400 on one.. around 420 iirc
|
hmmm what filter would you advice me to get for the S206 turbo with Hybrid FMIC?
I think to get a innerwingfilter, but the one from K&N I mentioned doesn´t seem to fit from a look I had under the bonnet today. |
? ;(
|
I also have the Apexi induction kit on my uk my99 car with an Apexi power ECU and commander recomended by Simon(JGM) above, the car pulls really strong and hard with it on and performs better than a RCM K&N kit i tried(REALLY BAD SURGE PROBLEMS) :( ,and also better than an HKS kit i tried(DESTROYED MY MAF VERY QUICKLY) .Apexi all the way on your car bud.:thumb:
|
I hoped to get this answer from JGM, Harvey and others too! ;)
Will have to try how far it goes with the S206... Any proofed numbers from S206 users and what inductionkit do you go with? |
large k&n with spun ally trumpet works well.
Simon |
Thanks Simon, you mean the RCM filter...
I think there is no way using a innerwing filter for this kind of power, right?! |

highest aps inner wing filtered car I can think of doing is a newage with 470bhp
|
That sounds quite okay, but with a S206 I might get more out of it with the larges filter I can place under the hood and seperate it from engineheat with my selfmade "airbox".
Due to the Hybrid FMIC pipework there might not be enough place in the innerwing for a big filter! ;( |
The filter in the inner wing is not big enough to allow for big power without causing a restriction. I have numerous examples where we have added 30-50 bhp with a remap in the 400-525 bhp bracket just for going from a CAK to a large trumpet and cone. The filter just doesn't suddenly stop working but when it is too small it starts to create a vacuum or a pressure depression in the inlet tract and the turbo has to overcome this so too small a filter will gradually tail off performance ability over a power range and become greater the further up the power scale you go.
According to K+N, the filter on the APS CAK will start to become a constriction beyond 309 bhp and in my experience I was able to go from 417 bhp with that CAK to 452 bhp simply by fitting a large air filter in the engine bay and getting Bob Rawle to remap. This is only one of many examples. Only 10 days ago I came across a car in the South West where the FMIC did not appear to be doing its job. I was assured that the inner wing filter fitted to the Hybrid CAK was big enough. As well as poor spool the car was suffering higher than expected ACTs. The problem was solved when a large cone filter was fitted. In my experience if you are going much beyond 370-380 bhp then you should give serious consideration to ditching the CAK. |
My own car with the S206 is equipped with the RCM trumpet and 260mm tall filter.
I know exactly where Harvey is coming from having had similar experiences with inadequate induction kits in the past. Martyn |
So you would advice me to swap the Apexi cone as well with the S206 turbo! ;)
How did you get such a tall filter under the bonnet? Would this filter be big enough? http://cgi.ebay.de/K-N-57i-Performan...item439a39af2f Or would a airbox like this work? http://www.neweraparts.com/Default.a...&ProductID=680 We are not allowed to use open airfilter, so it would be perfect if I could retain some kind of airbox... |
The Apexi cone isn't anywhere near big enough to support the S206. I have seen the 57i kit produce 485bhp inthe past, but again it isn't really big enough.
This is much more like it. http://www.rogerclarkmotorsport.co.u...productID=1151 |
agreed

This is the exact same filter i just sold,my vf35 didnt like it and i got really bad surge in 3rd 4th 5th gears,so much so the car would bang and judder until i let off the accelorater pedal.the filter flowed to well for the turbo to handle i think and it couldnt deal with the amount of air this beast let in,Wish i had kept it now and tried to map around it.:(

I found the following options of filters local, please let me know your opinion.
diameter MAFside, diameter top of the filter and height of the filter 152mm - 89mm - 228mm (might fit the inner wing as well...) 152mm - 114mm - 228mm (might fit the inner wing as well...) 140mm - 114mm - 203mm (maybe the best option) 190mm - 178mm - 130mm (might be too big...) Which one would you choose and will solve my problem?!? Just to remember ;) I would love to use the filter in the innerwing, due to using a opencone is not legal over here! ;( |

would have been harder to map out on larger filter / cone and no gain for it on that size turbo
THANKS AGAIN for tweaking the car last week Simon, its better than ever now.Took it all the way to the NBO and back and loved every minute of it,even with the wife and kids on board:rolleyes:...YOU ARE THE MAN.:notworthy:thumb: |

Sorry to jump in on this but with me having a 321T, Perrin Headers, Harvey up pipe, 800cc Injectors etc being fitted along with the APS CAI I already have soon. Would I be better off ditching the APS and going the RCM trumpet and filter route?
I always thought a inner wing CAI would draw more cooler air to the engine than a trumpet and filter sitting in a hot engine bay?? |

It is a trade off. The inner wing filter is not large enough to pass adequate air for your 321T but has the advantage of colder air than that in your engine bay which is pre heated as it flows over the radiator plus whatever radiated heat there is but on balance you are far better off with the bigger filter in the engine bay.
