Car Audio Advice

I have got a Kenwood headunit, Kenwood 3way 800W Amplifer (running the front speakers and sub), Alpine TypeR front speakers and a Kicker XPL subwoofer in my car and I'm having a problem which shows up mostly in dance music.

Problem is when I'm playing my music rather loudly the volume fluctuates from high to low. I know feck all about car audio but if i were to guess, the Amplifier is either overworked or not drawing in enough power to cope with running the Sub and fronts at a constant level when the music goes into full swing!

Any ideas of what could be causing it or how to correct it?

what power wire you running? also whats the volts on the battery when this is playing. its possible your amp is drawing too much power for your battery that may be on its way out. do your lights dim when its playing?

Running a wiring kit from Halfords, can't remember what size of battery it is will check in a mo. The battery less than 6months old so i don't think its on its way out and haven't noticed the lights dimming as i ain't drove in the dark in ages.

any other thoughts on this? Thought I had a multi-meter to check the battery but fook knows where it is.

Loose wire somewhere?

It could be that the amp is trying to draw too much power and therefore starts to shut down when it doesn't get it. Could be overheating too and bringing some kind of thermal shutdown / protection mechanism into play.

as above really. do you play it really loud for long? it could just be your alternator is not running enough to power battery. i know on subarus they have this clever alternator which only charges once something in the car is on. i dont know if a direct sorce taken off the battery is enough.

try turning on your heaters and seeing if it does it then.

I generally don't play it loud which is probably why i only heard it today. I had the kit professionally installed about 2years ago but i've never been 100% happy with it to be honest.
