Exedy Twin Plate - Just had one fitted....
I've just had an Exedy Twin Plate fitted, and this is the first time i've ever actually replaced a clutch on a car. To be honest it isn't too bad to drive. I was expecting it to be a lot harder. Although when the clutch peddle is pressed, it rattles it's tits off, which I'm told is normal.
I've drove it moderately for 400 miles now, and not launched or anything yet. Occasionally when changing gears at high revs (5k), and I let the clutch up fast and accelerator pedal back down fast, there is quite a big 'clunk', which is definitely coming from the clutch area!! I can't make the noise happen, it just randomly happens, but is quite loud. Is this normal with these clutches? Does it need more bedding in etc? Also, I park my car with the passenger side tight against a wall, on a steep hill. To get in position I have to reverse to get there. This seems very difficult! I have to rev tons (which won't please the neighbours at 5am in the morning, or late at night), and it makes a whirring noise, and it all seems very jerky/crap to park..........It's also quite embarrassing if anyone is watching as I look like a spaz not being able to park properly. Any ideas? |
Welcome to the whrrrrr club, reversing still puts the shivers up my wallet...
(single plate here but no better !) dunx |
It didn't sound bad with my standard clutch though......
Is it normal on twin plates to sound as rough as a raccoon reversing? Especially up hill? |
haha yes mine has a twin plaate, reverse is terrible, sounds like no oil in the gearbox and dragging the exhaust lol and pulling off is very juddery, idle is noisy , with bonnet up sound s like engine knock but its the clutch......
doesnt slip tho:thumb::D |
Have had many complaints about noise when come back late at night and living in a very small village in middle of no where!
|
I find pulling away ok really, but the reversing seems very rough!!
What about the random knock/bang I get when driving along? |
Welcome to the "stalling it 3 times in reverse because i am trying to be quiet" club ;)
Normal whirring. |
lol, hope my neighbours get use to it then.....and don't destroy my car!! lol.
|
Did you modify the slave cylinder as per the instructions ?
dunx |
i have found the exedy twin to actualy quite a nice everyday clutch to use. pedal feel seems to be no worse that a standard clutch. yes, slightly more beans when driving off but in gear changes and a very progressive biting point.
|
No noises from my Cusco/Exedy twin plate. It did when it was first fitted 3yrs ago, but then a few standing starts sorted that out bedding it in!! ;)

dunx Shaun, did yours bang occasionally you mean? |
It never banged mate. Used to rattle a tad when the clutch was not engaged.
|
Yeah, mine rattles too. But every now and then there is a big bang/knock when changing gear fast, and high speeds. It's happened about 6 times now....
|
I use to have the odd knock on mine but has gone after a few launches and miles
|
I was hoping it will clear itself.........
I haven't launched it yet, and have only done about 400 miles, so was hoping it might "bed in more". |
Come down on Sat Chris and we'll swap cars for a bit and u can see if theres any difference :).

Another one with noisey reverse here. Thought it may have been the box or rear diff though as I replaced all 3 at the sametime. Can't understand how being in reverese could make adifference to the clutch.
Find the clutch ot great when coolbut when it gets some heat in it it feels very grabby. Oh and ditto with the comments from people telling me its gubbed and I should get my whiney gearbox looked at (straight cut). |
Yeah cheers Dave, I'll come down after work.
|
Also, how many miles does it take to 'bed in'
