Extending a sensor wire.

Since a good way to immobilise an Impreza is to remove the connection to crank, or cam sensor, is it feasible to extend the wiring into the car to a hidden switch?

I ask, since I know that the sensors don't see the full 12V afaik, and I don't want to do the job, then run into problems due to "volts drop" on th extended wiring.:wonder:

Anyone successfully done it?

I personally wouldn't touch the cam or crank sensor wiring as it carries a very low voltage "fast switching" signal along a wire that is shielded from interference.

You could in theory lengthen it, but you would have to use wiring, a switch & connections that did not increase the overall resistance of the harness & make sure that it was properly shielded against interference from other components.

Have you considered interrupting the low tension side of the fuel pump wiring. It would do the same job and would not be affected by adding the extra wiring and a switch.

No, I hadn't thought of that. I'll look into it, thanks.

Or fit a fuel shut-off solenoid....

I'm still waiting for you to come round and show me how to fit that water temp sender;)

MY top hose seems to be 51mm dia, 5mm thick so 41mm i/d.

Of course, the dealer don't have one they can measure..........

there are many ways to stop a car from starting/firing, my fave is always a low amp ignition circuit, as said don't bother with cam/crank wire's to risky, the fuel pump is a good 1 trouble is people reading these kind of threads that have lets say other things in mind for impreza's............. pm will be sent bud
