Firstly I'll apologise if I have posted this in the wrong group, but I put my air con on today for the first time in about 6 months and it doesn't seem to be as cold as it used to be.
I popped into my local Scooby dealer who said that it may require re-gassing and maybe some seals to be replaced?
Not being the most technically gifted:) I would be grateful if any of you kind peeps can enlighten me as to whether this is a 'major' job requiring deep pockets and an anaesthetic.

I didn't enquire about the cost as I thought it seemed to be getting colder but after a decent drive came to the conclusion something is not right.

Cheers,

Rich.

Hi Rich,

Re-gassing shouldn't be exspensive at all, it's quite an easy and quick job.

If there are leaks though then they will need to hunt for them, this is where those nasty labour charges may sting you in the ass.

If the car isn't under warranty (or even if it is, who will know) you can get air con fixed at a refrigeration / air con service gaf.

Hope this is of use.

this is actually called a recharge in the garage trade, they hook your in and out pipes to the compressor for the a/c and pump out the refigerant? or r134 as its known and pass it through a recharging unit pumping it back into the system recharged as its called, should take about an hour to complete if you want theycan add a dye when they recharge which highlights any leaks (easy ay)your best bet would be to look in the yellow pages for a mobile a/c specialists as they will normally charge you £50.00 upwards unlike the dealer that will charge you an hourly rate hope this helps rob

Halfords do regassing and check over for about £80 (1 yr ago).
They test by putting dye in the gas and seeing where the fluorescent dye comes out of your pipes/ cracks etc.
Mine did in loads of places , which on an Audi out of warranty cost mega bucks :( :(

Where are you based?

Dave West at Risborough 4 Wheel Drive will sort your air con out no problem, it will be a lot cheaper than a dealer too....

Thanks for reply Bogie, I do have an extended dealer warranty on the car but don't know whether it would cover this prob. The sales guy did say that you should always run the air con at least once a week even over winter........which I obviously wasn't aware of, so something learnt there.

Cheers m8.

Blimey this BB moves fast......3 more replies while I have been doing the old two fingered shuffle:)......(err typing)

Thanks for the help/info guys........and Richard I'm based in York.

Might ring Halfords for a quote and also look in yellow pages.

The first time in six months

This may be the reason, aircon should be swithched on weekly to pressurise the system and lubricate the seals.

You may be lucky and a recharge may be all thats needed. May turn out expensive if you have to chase leaks.

When you get it done run it for at least one journey once a week. :)

Oxfordshire is a bit of a trek for just your air con.... best of luck, hope its not too expensive...

It says in the manual that you should operate the air con compressor at least once a month in the cold season to circulate the oil in the pump etc.
