Can OS or Ecutek remap provide antilag?
 

Hi,

Seem to think I read somewhere that open source remapping (or non Ecutek using some other tools) of the standard newage ECU (mines a JDM STi7) can provide antilag.

So is this the case and can the same be done via an Ecutek remap (again have think I heard they got a new version that supports this)?

Antilag effects are easy in either - they both have access to the same tables in the map.

Do you really need full on ALS ?

Nope, no need for anitlag at all other than the childish desire for bangs and pops every now and then, I would want it switchable so can turn it off totally when I am pretending to be a sensible adult (cut me some slack, I don't have a whosshy dump valve so need some fun).

Buy dump valve first, cheaper and it sounds cool evenif some think there abit chav??

Who does the open source mapping ?
I understand it's free to download and if you tech savvy you can map your own car. How hard is it?

LOL if it was that easy we would all be doing it mate! Yes its free etc but you really need to know what your doing hence why most will get a mapper to do it.

Im not a fan of OS and i certainly would not attempt it myself. The Yanks are big into it but they just seem to pass generic maps around by email and call it a self tune:wonder:

I take it open source is more or less like Ecutek it allows you to access all tahe tables in the ecu?

allows you to do the same thing for less price mate, you wont go wrong with duncans work

Ok cool sounds like your tlking from experience. When did you have your carmapped and how long has it been since it's been mapped and al what power did you get?

I would doubt either system allows access to literally every single programmable parameter but they do allow access to the vast majority that make a tunable difference to the engine. In addition contributors to the open source projects have contributed tweaks and improvements to the firmware (i.e. the program the ECU runs), while Tek have their own similar modifications.

The fundamental difference between Ecutek and the Open Source side is that Tek is a single commercial company charging for the use of the toolset it provides. As such you, as the end user, will pay more for a mapper using Ecutek systems than you will if the same individual used OS tools (which are largely available without charge). Some tuners only use one or the other, some use both.

The bottom line is that the skill of the individual tuning your car is what counts. The tools are only as good as the workman wielding them.

im not a chav:nono: but ive just bought a baliey vta dump valve on my 04 sti
for 50.00 from a fellow scoobynetter. runs fine ,not to loud,does run slighty
rich, when revved pops and bangs like a good one ...but ive got a decat too:)

This is done with motorbikes and powercommanders and has been for years, i know on bikes it is very effective.. someone gets theirs mapped for the specific mods they have upload to site next person with those mods downloads the matching map and away you go

Had good results on bikes with it, dont know how well it works on cars though tbh

Using OS mapping is the anti lag controlled via a switch so that you can turn it on and off etc?

Jonny that wasn't a dig at you mate. I read Juggers thread on his car being opensource mapped not so long ago which is why I was confused and thought he was on a wind up.

Thread has helped me aswell mate as I didn't realise that opensource had the ability for Anti lag to be run :thumb:

Bad idea using someone map(ROM),because you will end with big bill.

Few months ago here has been thread about the "mapper in Birmingham",which done same just you are saying,and few car has end with failed engines.

Technically you can control ALS on OS via switch.

At first you must find mapper which know how to do,as Group N ROM,which will allow you run Speed density(Mafless) and ALS too.

ah strange, for bikes the manufacturer of the piggyback ecu supplies hundreds of maps and for my ex-bike, you could download the software and adjust the map from a laptop without any additional hardware.. its a very common thing in the 2 wheeled world

everything was so much cheaper and easier on a bike haha

Something like you are saying is available on US/EUDM models Cobb/AP,just search on Nasioc.
Not sure if its available too for UK models,but maybe.
This Cobb/AP from pure remap is miles away,but for simple changes is good like changing exhaust/cone etc.

I used open source & my engine nearly blew up, or maybe it was just the mapper's inexperience. Who knows.

EcuTek now & the car runs sweet with no funny behaviour.

Funnily enough, i once bought some cheap headers from ebay that cracked after a couple of weeks, exactly the same ones as you were selling on here recently for twice their value!
