Speed Limiter - Removal

Just found out that my 96 sti has a speed limiter on it (only got the car a week ago). Speedo is reading in mph (inaccurately) so has had the dial changed.

Can any one recommend someone in the sussex area to remove the limiter and sort out the speedo reading.

Thanks

Sounds like its reading kmh with mph clocks. Get a kmh/mph convertor, I suspect your is the mechanical type.

You cant remove the limiter, unless you replace the ECU (or at least, the EEPROM). Fitting a mechanical 1.6:1 drop gear to the speedometer drive cablewill cause the original clocks to now read in MPH, as opposed to KPH; and it will move the speed restriction up to 180MPH, from 180KPH / 112MPH.

I bought one of those small adaptors that you plug in behind the clocks, removed the limiter and converted to reading mph at same time.

As GC8 said above, that doesn't remove the limiter, it simply changes the reading to MPH which effectively moves the limiter to 180mph.

Obviously that's just being pedantic as the outcome is the same (can't get to 180mph on stock gearbox), but it's good to know the facts.

The only way to remove the limiter properly is via the ECU AFAIK.
