Porsche progressing
Been working on the porsche today here`s a fairly recent engine bay shot.

Stripped the rest of the interior out today getting ready to fit the bucket seats. Every piece of carpet is glued to the sound deadening underneath which of course in turn is glued to the floor. Fingers are sore from pulling and picking at it. :( But I`m getting there slowly. :lol1: |

Use a heat gun to get the sound proffing up i done the whole of the beamer in an hour

Change the water bottle to a smaller one and take that stupid alarm out ,it all adds up to weight . And take the power steering pump out ,you wont miss it whilst flying around the track beleive me im the stig

Would it not be better fitting a different (inner wing) cold air filter and then fitting a strut brace? |

Ref weight loss car not driver. :razz:
Can`t believe how many electric motors and gizmo`s there are in such a small and now classic sports car. The 924 weighs just 1100kgs in full trim. I have binned numerous electric motors like rear wash wipe, Sunroof, rear hatch release, The trim and rear seats weigh real heavy for such a small car, spare wheel, the list goes on. I`m confident it must now weigh less than a ton. :norty: |

simon, re to the power sterring i think you just take the pipe's out, pump the fluid out and leave it at that, because i think if you clamp the pipe's you might make the sterring even stiffer as the pressure won't be able to get out the rack?? i did this on my clio 16v as it had power sterring and the 5 turbo did'nt have PS fitted to them:thumb:

You must plug them becuase if you go in the kitty litter (like some others i can mention)you may get gravel in there and it could lock the steering up,also get rid of the heater hoses you dont need heat in the car

Honestly Simon, if it were me..... for the sake of the slight extra weight I'd keep the power steering. I don't know about you but my reflexes aren't what they were when I was 18 and I'd need the extra help that power steering gives you. You have a huge lump over the front wheels and you won't ALWAYS be giving it death and it'll be a pig at slow speeds.
Just my 2p's worth. Seriously though about the steering issue when going for it power steering takes away the feel of what the tyres are really doing and I was in two minds whether to bin it or not. But when I moved it into the workshop the other day and it was refusing to work it kind of sealed its own fate. I`m not going to fix it before I try the car only to decide to bin it after. :thumb: And I have heard other 924s owners doing the same thing on their cars. Also whilst the 3950cc V8 is a lot of engine it is a complete aluminium engine and actually only weighs the same as the old cast 2.0 pinto engine so not that heavy at all. I know it was 20 years ago now but I actually raced an SD1 rover with a 3500cc V8 on grass and it was only about 2 turns lock to lock without power steering and the SD1 was a long heavy car but as kevd said in full flight you don`t even notice it. :) Thanks for the thought anyway mate. :notworthy |
The Rover SD1 power steering was ridiculously light too, no good for racing or does it have Porsche power steering?
