I know it's been done before .... but ....

Now I have ordered my new Honda, I realise I have never owned a Honda before - it makes me look back at my old cars ... I'm old so have had a few!! ;)

I've owned Fords, Vauxhalls, Opels, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda ....

List of my cars, just for old times sake:-

Ford Cortina MK2 1600 De-Luxe Automatic ... 1st car and loved it (old rust bucket!) - stolen!

Ford Cortina MK3 2000 GT Automatic ... brilliant car, it sold last year on e-bay, the numberplate now adorns a Porsche Carrerra!!

Ford Granada 3000 GXL Automatic ... White with working police siren! - I had so much fun in that :lol1: it was clapped out when I bought it!

Ford Capri MK2 2000 GL Automatic ... Roman Bronze metallic with tan vynil roof, lovely jubberly!

Ford Sierra 2000 GL Automatic ... in metallic pink (almost!) ... the very first of the Sierra's and a damned awful car - loads of teething problems!

Opel Rekord 1900 Automatic - a stop-gap car and a car I couldn't care less about, lovelly!

Vauxhall Cavalier 1600 SR Automatic ... made me realise what it was like to get more than 25 mpg!! :lol1: great car this, cost me nothing.

Ford Sierra 2000 Ghia ... my first ever manual transmission ... silver and so well equipped.

Ford Sierra 2000 Ghia ... white, high mileage but as tight as a nuns ..... excellent.

Ford Granada 2800 Ghia ... black, stop gap car to release some house moving money - not bad as it was cheap as chips.

Ford Sierra 2000 Ghia ... Mercury Grey metallic - high mileage car destined for the auction - not bad, but this was the end of my love affair with Fords .. because, then came my ...

Vauxhall Calibra 16V ... in silver, with black leather, heated seats - nothing made me feel so great as this car. It looked like nothing anyone had ever seen, it had the running costs of a Cavalier yet went and looked a $Million (you can laugh at it now, but - in it's day - people drooled over it). Really, truly, loved this car.

Nissan Primera GT ... did everything well, did nothing great, bland - bland - bland ...

Subaru Impreza Turbo ... what can I say? Best all-round car I have ever owned - not a beautiful as the Calibra - not as well equipped as a Sierra Ghia ..... but, good god, what a way to put a smile on your face! Not gone yet.

Ford Escort Cabriolet Ghia ... first open topped car ever owned and first time I have had a 'toy' - didn't last long until I got my ..

Mazda MX5 ... a 1995 gem and sat in the garage right at this moment - comes out in the sun only. Owned it now for 7 years and it has increased in value ... what a fantastic car for those who are not worried about hairdresser comments - a real mans car in essence and the best drive of your life! Will stay with me forever ... unless hell comes to claim me sooner! ;)

And, in 2 weeks or so, a Honda Civic Type S GT .... could be my final car .... :(

It's been a journey .... sometimes fast, sometimes fun, but always worth the petrol :thumb:

What's your story?

jonny_693 28 May 2010 09:28 PM

Does that mean you will be off to post on hondanet now? :D

Hope you enjoy the new purchase.

pslewis 28 May 2010 09:35 PM

Nah, I'll still come here to shake the bars .... rattle someone's nerves .... I'm sure I'll enjoy the new car - I have done all the research I possibly can.

I've been back and back and back again to the Subaru offerings .... but .........................

GC8 28 May 2010 09:41 PM

Peter, all of those car were rubbish (and some were f*cking dire!), apart from the Impreza and the MX5.

pslewis 28 May 2010 10:12 PM

In your opinion ;)

I'm a simple fella, with simple needs ......

dpb 28 May 2010 10:16 PM

Quite fitting youve plumped for an oap car

bluenose172 28 May 2010 10:33 PM

I chuckled at, "could be my final car". What a depressing thought...

When you get to my age that's the reality - it's not just a thought!

I laugh when I see 10 year warranties for things .... I won't benefit !!! :lol1:

Why on gods green earth would you spend your formative years motoring around in automatics .............

f1_fan 28 May 2010 11:30 PM

Good choice with the Honda Pete, much better car than the Impreza hatch!

tim's wrx 28 May 2010 11:46 PM

Will that be a petrol or diesel??

tathan 28 May 2010 11:53 PM

Does it worry you that they all had more torque than a Honda?

Well ..... it's like this see ...... I didn't take a driving lesson at all - not one! My Dad had a Ford Zephyr 2500 and he sat next to me when I drove to the testing station - I did the test and passed first time.

Then, and only then, did I read the blurb and - as my Dads car was Automatic, I only had an Automatic Licence!!! :lol1:

I can never do things simply, can I?

Then, much later in life, I chucked my application in for a manual test - and passed first time again ......
