I've got the 200sx that MParsonage is talking about, and it certainly is slower than a Scooby at reasonable ;) (ie around Manchester streets) speeds. But the gearing & the 4wd of the Scooby makes a big difference 0-60, whereas (in a straight line) it could be a slight hinderance above above 60ish.

But at the end of the day, I guess it all depends on the cars (and the drivers!) involved. There's 200sx drivers who say they've never been beaten by a Scooby, and Scooby drivers vice versa. I reckon there's one way that we can find out and settle it all, fair and square... ;) :D

Out of curiosity does anyone know how the two compare with 0-60 and top speeds??
I have scooby but friend has Nissan and will insist both are same!

Any ideas?

raced one the other day with another scoob. it was fast but not fast enough. i had four people and was the only one. I didn't drop a gear and he was slowly pulling away. After i started dropping the gear he couldn't keep up.

My neighbour has a standard 200sx turbo (2 litre not 1.8) which feels a lot quicker to 60 than his mate's standard Terzo 3 which was also admited by the scooby owner!

I've owned a 200sx before. It was fun but it kept breaking down with me as the pilot. :D

it was pretty quick though, but I can't compare it to my scoobs. The scoob accellerates faster than my old 1.8 200sx.

Nissan 200SX 146 mph, 0-60 in 6.4 and 0-100 in 16.6

Scooby 2000 turbo 143 mph, 0-60 in 5.3 and 0-100 in 14.9

My mate who has one reckons that my Scooby will be quicker 0-60, but that his will be quicker 60-100 (on a private road ;)). He puts this down to it being designed as more of a motorway cruiser.

His certainly didn't feel anything like as quick 0-60 - no punch in the back. Only been in it once briefly though...

nice cars the 200sx but the scoobs are quicker and better... well apart from looks!

Forget the private road, or any road come to that, have driven both, the Nissan is a distant second under any conditions, especially pulling away throught the gears, and in the gears. Less power, heavier and rear wheel drive, come on get a grip boys !!!

And did someone mention looks, what on earth are you on about ?

S14 has same engine as gtir but smaller i/c and less boost hence about 197bhp standard.Similar tuning potential though so easy to crack 300bhp.The 0-60 will not compare though as RWD,unless it's been seriously tuned but then it's not a true comparison.

owned one for 6 months- slower than scoob everywhere and far to easy to get the back out (ie- not fun just happened all the time) in the end my wife spun it into a 4X4 and wrote £60k of cars off! so i cold buy a scoob! cheers Mrs Tiggs!

Owned a 200sx two cars ago,I dont think Subaru need to worry about any competition from that corner of the market!

Admittedly the Scoob is the better car, but it also cost`s more too.

Scooby is always quicker to 60/70 but then it could probably go either way.

Comment further up about rwd being a downfall is odd 'cos 4wd loses far more power through the transmission, its just that 4wd stick to the road like **** so will have better grip from 0-60.

Don't own either tho, my friend has beaten certain model scoobies in 2.0 200SX, easily on motorways.

How do they compare?
IMHO,
They both have 4 wheels,
They both have 2litre turbo-charged engines,
They both react well to a little light fettling.

That's pretty much all they have in common.

The Scoob is a 4WD and the SX is RWD,
One's a coupe the others either saloon/5 door/coupe.
You can fit people in the back of a Scoob.

The Scoob will make an average driver look like a good'un (in Autocars opinion) wheras the SX will put a different spin:D on things if you're not aware of the handling characteristics.

I'd say the Scoob it more suited to A/B road blatting and the SX is more of a tourer, the scoob is still the car de jour and therefore more recognisable whereas the SX is less well known, especially amongst the max muppet brigade, the outcome of which is that your average Scoob driver has to put up with a lot more aggro on the road and sleepless nights wondering if that's your alarm going off at 2a.m.

I was most impressed at a recent sprint event at how easily a PPP'd but otherwise standard Scoob got off the line I'd say they were on the whole faster accelerating than the SX but in the grand scheme of thing they are quite similar.

Finally a Scoob of equivilent age and mileage can still cost upwards of £5k more than an SX, think of all the hamster porn you could buy with that!

What was the Scoob penned as once? the performance bargain of the decade????

LOL ;) know what u mean TM, only ever come across one 200sx in my UK turbo (my00 with one or 2 mods and she was poorly at the time :() but the 200sx's do handle very well indeed ;) i think in the wet they may be a little skittish but apart from that they are a bit of a surprise especially to the reps out there :eek:
But as i say, only come across 1 200sx who was willing to try (the words try come into it ;)) and that was a green v reg one on the A6 towards buxton from stockport..... needless to say he grew small in the mirror ;) but i think that was a stock car and meeting a rather more modified one could have had a different outlook on life!

Oh, and RE: 1/4 mile times, despite the slow 0-60 ability ;), lightly tuned 200s are happily in the low 14s :)

Had one for a week (press car) lovely engine, great tail happy fun - I mean REALLY great tail happy fun! Really enjoyed it.

Was chasing one at the Bedford SIDC track day yesterday, and he had it beautfully sideways...but ran out of track, and spun in HUGE clouds of tyre smoke! The (my) Scoob is clearly easier to drive and outcorners it. It is a great car though, but if you want more, I think the Scoob may deliver it.

I hope that is unbiased, but it may not be!

I had a 200sx for about three years - great rear wheel drive fun. 0 - 60 in just over 6 seconds. Then had an Alfa GTV - nice looking car but slow and Italian. Now have a P1 which is just brilliant - love driving it so much that I'm having difficulty keeping the mileage down.

I think a Scoob WRX turned up at the 200 Top speed day, not sure about it 1/4 mile times, but top speed wise (after a 1.5 mile run from standing start) the Scooby was a good few mph off the 200's :rolleyes:

Loved my 200 which I had before my first scoob.

More of a GT than scoob and slightly softer but v comfy and an absolute bargain. Sweet memories....

I own 200sx myself, but I still have loads of respect for Scoobs. But you can't write off 200s just like that.

0-60 a Scoob is quicker, but from 60-120 a 200 is equally as fast as many imprezas out there. If the 200 is modified, then you could be in for a suprise.

All I'm saying is never under estimate a 200sx

I had a 200sx 2.0 TURBO, my first performance car after crappy Rovers (220GTI 216GTI ) Audi Coupe 2.0 5cly & Metro Turbo. Great car , MUCH better interior- leather, than my 94'UK Wagon, but great acceleration 0-60 & grip. 200sx is quick mid range in a straight line, I too have fond memories, intact ear drums but give me the Impreza for all round ability. My girl friend can now speed & feel safe!!!

• 20+bhp
• (useful) rear seats
• rear doors
• bonnet scoop and high level rear spoiler (gotta love 'em)

I do like the way sx owners rush over here to "defend" their cars, yet no Scooby owners have ventured to post on your board. Is it because we don't need to? ;)

Profound ;). In all seriousness though, I think it would depend mostly on the drivers involved, with the 4WD making it much easier to get the power down earlier. Certainly on the road, to an extent on the track and slightly in a drag race. Wet conditions though...

Is that because it has no corners?!!

i'm still hoping that some 200sx owners are brave enough to take part in our top ten shootout in august. i emailed keith c, as their list rep, and he didnt get much response from what i hear. the scooby guys are down to take part,as are the evos, gti-rs etc etc.
if anyone with a 200sx wants to resurect a few cars to prove they do go, then drop me an email!

I don't think we need to defend our cars - your less biased fellow board members have been doing a damn good job without our help!! :D :D

I love my car 'cos it's fast, reliable, quiet, exciting 'round the twisty bits, relaxing to drive long distances, discreet (yes!) and nice to look at. It had good RWD handling, with a pleasant bit of tail-out when you want it! ;) Oh, and it cost me less than £5 grand! :)

But why are we arguing? Shouldn't we be bitchin' at the Fiesta RS Turbo drivers, or something?!? :)
