MD321H supporting mods.

Got the itch for more torque and after searching the site i think the above will do me fine.

I am running a 05 STI UK with PPP that has then had a TSL 333 kit applied. I am looking at running about 360bhp on my standard internals. Is fitting a MD321H as easy as getting the turbo and dropping it off with my tuner for fitting and remap or do i need more?

The car at the moment is running a Prodrive exhaust, Green air filter and a upgraded fuel pump. Other than that the engine is standard.

Cheers

I recon it would make that on your set up and would give you headroom for a future power hike when you get board with 360bhp (which you will).

If you can afford it fit some GT spec headers and harvey GT spec up-pipe and you'll probably hit 360-375bhp and start to max out the standard injectors.

Hahahahaha Nice one fella. This whole thing started with me saying 300 is enough. Then 333 will be enough!

Motion-Mx 21 May 2010 10:53 PM

can I hijeck a little?

I'm in the same boat, but wanting around 400bhp...what supporting mods will I need? same car, same turbo...or maybe the 321T?

Thanks,

Injectors?

dunx 21 May 2010 11:23 PM

Yes injectors, I had to fit a Fuelab regulator to my "pinks", so I could up the fuel pressure in the hope of chasing 400 bhp, to avoid having to buy larger injectors.

P.S. I also fitted a breather delete silicon intake hose for amplified turbo chatter... it worked :) Me = 2.1 for more torque !

Running a Md321T on a JDM ver7.

426bhp 369lbsft on Deltadash mapped by JGM

Md321T
Gt Spec headers
Harvey Up-pipe
PE 650,s
RCM IK
RCM Full 3in system
APS DR725 FMIC
Breather delete.

Mapped on a Nurspec which cost me torque, tweek should see more torque mapped on 97ron as its all we get in NI:mad:

Thanks guys. I was under the impression that the T was better suited for a 2.5. So, looks like injectors are the limiting factor here. What bhp do we think the standard injectors will max out at?

71/200 21 May 2010 11:51 PM

T is fine on the newage Sti with AVCS helps to spool the turbo, cant comment on the H as ive never had one, i was a sceptic of the T on a 2litre but JGM converted me lol.

Sti injectors are hit and miss, some make 400 with a good fpr some dont, im running an OE reg with 650,s. Buy bigger injectors and negate the need for a aftermarket FPR.

MD321H reads for a good road car, however if buying new get the T. You may want to add GT spec headers etc, if not then the 321H should suit your needs.

I would go to a mapper that has mapped plenty of Md series turbos as they know how to get the best out of them. A friend of mine was in a car recently with a 321T on a classic, it was laggy as hell and didnt drive nice. Probably down to the map.

Hey,

ok cool, could i get over 400bhp with standard TMIC? and would some harveys headers suffice? really don't want to loose that burble!

also my magnex de-cat is 3' reducing to 2.5',is that still ok for 400 ponies!

thanks,

fastboyslim 22 May 2010 08:31 AM

It has to be done! Thanks for the info guys.

thanks,

Several cars out there running that sort of power on a V7/8 TMIC, mate of mine is running 420bhp through a 2.5 system.

Are we talking Deltadash or rolling road figures here? In my experience DD can be up to 30/40 hp up on RR because of different loadings.

My 2 cents worth. I have an MD321H on a 2L 03 STI running 414bhp and 369lb/ft of torque (with splash of methanol). Deffo get the GT Spec headers - they really transformed the H when I added them. Also add Harvey's up-pipe designed for the GT Spec header for some seriously quick spool (my H spools at exactly the same point as a VF35 on a standard car. I'm running the TMIC - fine for road use though perhaps a FMIC might be better for regular track use. Injector size is 650cc. The H on a 2L with correct supporting mods is pretty quick; I recently took out a mate who's used to driving a remapped JDM spec C and he was seriously impressed at how quick it was :)

Nice post. Cheers

Take a look at my garage for some ideas.

dunx 22 May 2010 04:47 PM

My "sickly" engine made 392 bhp using the 321H with Lateral headers and a 3" de-catted APS exhaust, I choose the FPR as they are half the price of new injectors.

Mine is going 2.1 next, so the spool can only get stronger....

fastboyslim 22 May 2010 09:27 PM

Wayner, cheers for that. Dunx when you say "sickly" what is wrong with it?

DD Trev, i suppose it depends on who does your DD. If you use the generic settings then maybe thats the case. Fine tuned DD sttings pretty much put it on the money, a different car but mapped by the same mapper went on the rollers and it got higher numbers on the RR.

There is only one RR we can relay on here to get resonable figures. The other 2 are crap and operated poorly.

trevsjwood 22 May 2010 11:45 PM

Generally it's fair to say TMIC cars get up to 380ish and then have FMIC installed to break into the 400's, thats not to say a TM wouldn't surfice but I would be surprised if you found more than a handfull at that level.
I've always squared my results both RR and DD back to my track times at Santa Pod.
I think it's important to identify the RR/DD results seprately which you did with your own car of course.
Trev:)
