Is there a need to strip wax before applying new?
 

Hi I've finally decided to upgrade my detailing products to the Blackfire Wet Ice...kit and was wondering will I need to strip the existing sealant/wax(I'm using auto glym @ the mo) before applying the new? Just wanna check before in case I need anything else from polishedbliss

If you put the Blackfire Wet Diamond Paint Protection (acrylic sealant) over a wax, it prevents the wax evaporating and can cause the finish to go all cloudy.

I would recommend using Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish before using the sealant. The GEP acts as a cleaner/glaze and will prepare the paint for the sealant and then the Midnight Sun wax...

Use either a claybar or an all purpose cleaner through a foam lance to remove your old wax. The finish you will see from properly cleansed paint will blow you away when you polish then apply wax /sealant

Oh no not another forum to spend a stupid amount of time on!! I only clayed the car a couple of months so will go for the all purpose cleaner.

If you are going to put a new wax on i woul clay it again anyway to give you the best chance of the new wax working how it should and give you the best finish. You will more often than not have a few tar spot which will need removing anyway which would strip and wax anyway. The car wont take long if done in the last few months.

For best results:

Rinse with pressure washer (pw)
foam
2bm
rinse with pw
dry
clay
foam
2bm
rinse with pw
dry
polish
cleanse (Dodo lime prime or similar)
apply wet mirror finish and ideally leave overnight
apply your wax
spit shine and leave for an hour or 2 (spritz with fine mist of water. this helps to cure the wax and allow you to build up more layers in a shorter period of time.)
apply further layer
spit shine and leave for an hour or 2
apply further layer
spit shine and leave for an hour or 2

sit back and take a well deserved rest.

Once you're done, top up with a layer of wax every 6 - 8 weeks or as needed. This will be dependant on where the car is kept, weather conditions, use of the car etc.

What is wet mirror finish?
& is "spit shine" buffing off the wax? i.e no spitting involved?

It's a product made by Blackfire. It's a sealant that give a pretty amazing wet look to your paint.

Spit shine get's it name and technique from back in the day when army solders would use spit to shine their boots.

As far as cars go no spitting on your paint is needed. After you've applied the wax and let it cure spritz the panel with a fine mist of cold water. This will further cure the wax and help to bond it to the paint and also it can increase the shine. Ordinarily you should leave at least 24hrs between wax layers for the curing and bonding process. By spit shining you can bring this time down to a few hours.

Cheers for that mneame I'll give that a go:thumb:. I normally wait 12+hrs between wax layers. I already foam and 2 bkt wash, got a big parcel from polished bliss today so that's my weekend sorted.

Out of interest, do you not rinse afetr foaming, then wash 2bm, or do you foam and go onto washing straight away. I always foam then rinse, then wash, etc, but if I can miss a rinse then great!.

And, as a mist, I am using megs detailer, is water better for this purpose?.

Sorry, yes there should be a rinse between the foam and 2bm.

If spit shining use plain cold water. Detailer would be fine but no real need and some detailers may even remove wax at this stage.

If claying, unless you have a clay bar that can be used with just plain water, detailer must be used to avoid marking the paint and to also make the clay bar perform properly.
