Is it possible to put a Diesel engine + running-gear into a Wagon?
After reading the Diesel thread, I was wondering if anyone has thought of taking the engine, gearbox, running-gear etc from a modern hatch ,say from a salvage/insurance job , and put it into the older shape Wagon ( my preference of course ;) ) or a saloon?
Would it be possible? |
Anything is possible...
However, classic imprezas have nice low bonnet lines. And diesel engines tend to be long stroke - i.e. tall. If you're looking at VAG units, then I think you won't get the sump high enough and be able to close the bonnet. I s'pose you could tilt the engine but that implies reworking the oil pickup and sump... J. |
Maybe he meant the scooby boxer diesel engine. Then yes at a guess, just lots of money.

As for Subaru Diesels, you'd have to find one... They aren't too common... |
You'd probably end up running a FMIC too, the Boxer Diesel is a big old block. My bonnet line is alot higher than my mates classic.

Cheers guys , yeh I did mean the Boxer Diesel .. Thought someone somewhere might've contemplated it picking an accident damaged Diesel up for the bits.. I have to admit I'm not a fan of the modern Impreza hatch and this thought came to me .. yes I have too much time on my hands :D

so it would be engine, fuel pipes, ecu, loom, interior loom, gearbox, maybe a rear diff, fuel tank, pumps, exhaust, front suspension etc etc.
not worth it it would be cheaper to buy one! |
