ya know, it's funny, I've been thinking about this.

Got to thinking, if money was no object what would I do.

Well I'd love to spec up the blackbeast (MY94 WRX Wagon) and also get a brand new Sti http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

here's what I had in mind for the blackbeast (if money was no object)

PossumLink ECU + 'conservitive' map by BRD

Sti 3 engine + diffs and other required running gear transplant + uprated cooling hoses and all braided hoses where needed + uprated internals (not needed cos it's STi engine???)

HKS 'green mushroom' induction kit (bb has this anyway!)

BPM'd (thanks Harj)

Front mount Intercooler (thanks TFyus)

Full decatted exhaust system, probablly HKS Hiper, or maybe just full Scoobysport system.

Broquet catalyst in tank

Equal length manifold

uprated turbo

STi front and rear strut braces (got front one, but not sti)

Brake support bracket (bb has one of these as well)

post 97 spec bonnet + bumper, thus allowing fitting of morrette twin headlights.

Bellof HID gas discharge dipped main and main lighting conversion.

HID fog to driving light conversion

18 inch OZ F1 Cup alloys, or 18 inch BK238 black chrome alloys, coated in Toyo Proxes T1-s rubber (which I what i have on the 16inch speedlines anyway)

smoked side repeaters, front indicators and rear light clusters (tacky or what http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

AP 6 pot conversion at front, AP 4 pot conversion at back, braided hoses and dot 5(?) fluid.

All windows tinted in 'smoke' tint by pentagon.

Leda B or C suspension

more gauges, probably oil pressure, oil temp, exhaust temp, AFR, boost gauge (got one on a pillar already), any others I can think of.

Uprated seats, maybe proper recarros or something,

maybe leather retrim, though not sure.

Autostyle mads with alloy heelpads

Personalised reg number.

umm, think that is about it.

Think that it'd probably put out aprox 280 - 300 bhp, but if the Link map was correct, and if BRD did it, it would be, then bhp might be lower but torque would be increased and it's torque that counts not bhp.

oh, and continued SIDC/scoobynet/22b membership! Oh, big discount from scoobyshop for all the part's I'd order from them http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

think that's it, anything obvious that I've missed, apart from waking up from my dream http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Very seriously, P2000 aside, I am attempting to do this with my car over the course of its life.

Didnt know what to start with and not sure I have made right choice.

But so far ideas are,

22B
Ohlins or DMS suspension (not the best but realistic)
AP six pots.
Roll cage,
Race harnesses
front and rear strut braces
front mounted intercooler

ignoring suggestions of reversing manifold.

Motec ecu (again not the best but money considerations)

Personal prefernce exhaust. Thinking of bpm downpipe, but definitely a three inch system.

Water injection and water spray.

Modifications to breathing primarily such as gas flowed headers (dual length to retain sound yet give some torque improvements),

sugestions of ditching engine and starting with a 2.5 with hefty internal work.

Should be good ofr well over 400bhp and 400 lbft, amd v reliable.

harj 06 March 2001 12:06 AM

All the above and then I would BPM it! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Internals and Exhaust would be BPM and then hey presto youve got a great engine for track, street or drag!

TFyus 06 March 2001 12:12 AM

If you have a good enough front mounted intercooler u wont need water sprays ( crap ) or water injection ( crap also )

what manifold are u all talking about swapping round ?inlet?

OK lads, I have a challenge (don't know if its been done before). Let's put all our knowledge to good use in a thought experiment shall we?

Money no object, how would you build the perfect scooby? I want to know what cars you'd start with and all the mods you would do and at what cost. What sort of BHP, performance, handling, styling benefits do you think could be achieved?

What would be interesting is what the final price of a car prepped like this would be, so we could compare a tricked out scoob to standard cars at the same money.

Oh yeah, if anyone thinks they have built their perfect machine, post some pics for all to admire and list your specs!!!

I wait with baited breath.

I know it's hypothetical, but what's the remit?
What would the Scoob be designed for?
Rallying?
Track racing?
Street posing?
Waking the neighbours? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
etc

It makes a difference when deciding how best to set it up.

Mikeyboy 06 March 2001 11:38 AM

Lets say the ultimate road scooby (that should be able to handle the odd track day).

Adam M 06 March 2001 11:52 AM

P2000

no restrictors.

Tarmac suspension, although fully adjustable.

No graphics, just rallye blue.

Fosters 06 March 2001 11:58 AM

Aren't we just going to end up with the WRC2000 (not 2001, I hasten to add!)?

Adam M 06 March 2001 01:00 PM

Water spray and water injection will always reduce charge temperature which can't be a bad thing, either or performance or reliability.

Turning round intake manifold to reduce pipe length of intercooler, but this arguably a waste of time. Has been suggested though.

Combined with rotating turbo, having air filter bolted staright on vertically above it in line with air scoop for forced cold air induction.

pipe from turb goes above modded radiator straighth to modded intercooler for even shorter pipes potentially reducing lag.

doing all this on a 2.5 gives even lower lag due to 25% more exhaust gas pushing the turbo sooner.

I personally am not going to do this as I dont believe the extra expanse to be significantly beneficial.

can you explain why water inj and spray (understand why to some extent) are crap?

Other thing is.

I would use close ration gearbox from type rs, not uk 2 door cars as these are normal ratios which are not as manic.

Also apparently phase 2 engine has better manifold and responds better to mapping. so this is a consideration.

Dont understand all the differnt benefits, but apparently coil pack ignition is better, an there is no wasted spark, so some kind of hybrid of all different engine.

ideall i would liek variable valve timing too, buy solenoid operated valves, but perhaps this is going a touch too far.

Oh, an dual mass fly wheel too.

Mikeyboy 06 March 2001 01:13 PM

Adam M. Did you have a grey/silver wrx before the 22b? If so, we exchanged emails when you were selling but I bought another car (STI). What did you get for yours in the end? Hope you are enjoying the 22B and not spending too much money on it........although that's not really the point of this thread is it?

Adam M 06 March 2001 01:34 PM

Spending a **** load of money on it, but what else should I spend it on?

Car is awesome and only getting better.

Would prefetr to keep it cleaner as I fully believe this is the best mod.

How much better does a clean car drive?

dont know about sale of old car, but was sorry to see it go.

guy who I bought it from, sold it on my behalf. All I wanted was the exchange money I needed for the 22b and that is what I got.

Also got a 205 in part ex, for about £500 worth of the value, so using this for everyday car, to avoid milaging the 22b, which i want to keep for weekends and track days.

Just waiting for my ap 6 pots now, and fm intercooler, when i find the right one. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

EvilBevel 06 March 2001 01:48 PM

Err, would this be a good start ?

ian_sadler 06 March 2001 03:10 PM

ps- Harj.. How much discount is BPM giving you on the parts ? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

owbow 06 March 2001 07:08 PM

I'd rather have a late Group B Audi Quattro with all the wings and aero bits http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Owain McRae
quicker than most

harj 06 March 2001 07:50 PM

Heres one for the Pot, drop a Cossy or Skyline engine in it for some real power http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Maybe not the Cossy but the Skyline OH YES!!!!!

What about a 2.5 Conversion? Its what some people are doing for monster conversions.

mat-e-boy 06 March 2001 08:00 PM

Is it ok to simply put a Subaru badge on a Maclaren F1? If not it must be Richard Burns ex rally car with a stereo and an unlimited petrol account!

gregh 06 March 2001 09:34 PM

ARRON BIRD 06 March 2001 09:42 PM

Dont bother with the Sugaru at all...just buy a Skyline http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
