MD321T+ and 800HKS Injectors - Overkill for 400hp?

Given that everything else on the car will support the power and more.
Do you think a MD321T+ and 800HKS Injectors - is Overkill for 400hp?

Very much so!!! that is a 475bhp turbo and the injectors will flow for over 550bhp, if you want more in future then stick with them but if not then defo better options out there for 400bhp like the MD321H.

Why suffer the lag of the T+ when you can have the H can do the same job with a set of 550s?

Steve Whitehorn 07 May 2010 11:50 AM

Banny, Dunk

Yes I suppose so.
Its just I have them lying about in a box.
I guess I could sell them

I currently have 310hp / 365lbs and the car is bloody quick (stripped out classic)
My origonal plan was to go way over 400hp.

But I kind of have the feeling that I will be comfortable with 400hp as road and track car.
So might try and find a H and 550s I suppose

If you already have the 800's then just keep them incase you want more power in future, a mapper should be able to sort everything out regarding fuelling etc to get them running sweet.

I was a bit concerned about them not being able to cope low down. But others have also said that with a decent map they should be OK.

Just need to get the fitting kit for the Turbo still

NO ! 550's won't do 400 bhp, mine are running at 4 bar static and I didn't make 400 bhp... ( MD321H)

I've got a MD321T and 740 injectors ... only pushing out 398hp, any idea why that might be (full spec can be seen on left there)? Booked in to Mocom in a few weeks to investigate :wonder:

TX looking at your previous boost graph, I still feel the it is not holding boost properly therefore down on power. Please update the thread with Mocom's finding would be interested in the cause too :)

That's odd, my 20G with methanol + octane booster is doing it on 550's? :wonder:

Can anyone explain why one can and one can't?

Shaun 07 May 2010 04:01 PM

Don't worry about the size of the injectors, in regards to low speed / idle... be more concerned with the ability of the mapper and/or ECU. For information I have 1150's and mine cold starts fine, idles 100% fine and has no different low down characteristics than OE!

If you have no intention of going for 450+bhp, then it would be prudent to spec your turbo to your 400bhp goal! If you have an incling that you may want more, then go for a bigger turbo to provide you some headroom.

Thanks All :thumb:
I will stick with the T+ and the 800s - get it all mapped and see how it feels.

Running a MD321T and 650s on a 2 litre newage JDM. DD records 426bhp.

You dont say if your running a 2 litre or 2.5 or something else?

Would a T+ not be very laggy on a 2 litre non AVCS car?

joz8968 08 May 2010 01:16 PM

Regarding 550s, I think they can max at between 390 and 420 on straight pump fuel (presumably 99?), so you could be lucky or not. Perhaps fitting an FPR will allow the mapper to run a tad more pressure, thus fuelling, so as to be able to achieve the magic 400?

As above, I'd defo sell the T+ for the H. Or even the SC40 Billet (still undergoing development though). No point in running around "un-optimsed" - i.e. spool-up and torque occurring too high in the rev range - if you have options available not to... ;)

do you have a cpoy of the RR print outs? boost and AFR recorded?

What has who ever mapped it said.. did it take good timing etc.. boost held?

Thanks Simon, attached. Let me know what you think pls. BR mapped the car. 2 boost settings, 1.5bar & 1.8bar. 1.5 seems to hold fine whilst the 1.8 drops away.

BR did mention that the plugs were "misfiring" at 1.8bar & suggested changing them to race plugs. I have the plugs which Zak will change in a few weeks time. I'm a mechanical luddite so doesn't mean much to me ;)

too rich and not enough boost.. assuming all else 100%

Terminator X 12 May 2010 08:19 PM

^^ Mapper needed to sort? BR did suggest changing the boost controller to an Apexi AVCr (currently have HKS EVC VI) ...

TX.

Jolly Green Monster 12 May 2010 11:55 PM

looking again and it isn't rich..

so issue has to be ignition or boost.. boost 1.4bar at peak.. being an obvious issue.

needs more boost.. HKS EVC VI should be capable but yes AVCR does have duty per rpm whcih helps.. but if HKS boost controller struggling then perhaps actuator is the issue

As regards 550cc side feed injectors, most sets I fit are able to get to 400 bhp and have a little left. With an FPR there are two sets here both close to 420 bhp.
Some 550s may be less able than others.
