Tattoos
 

Ok, appreciate that they aren't everyones taste but I'm going to get one done. Thought about it for a year or so and at close on 40 I'm pretty sure that I won't regret it.

Now, I know what I want the design to be but I can't find any similar tattoos - it's a picture I have which I would want altering slightly. I'm assuming a talented tattooist could do this?

Secondly (and I'm not concerned with the cost), does anyone have any recommendations of where to go in Leeds / Yorkshire area?

r32 - I used to think that as well but I have something that I want to get done which means something to me. There are also loads of ways to waste money....fortunately I have some that I can afford to waste at the moment.

I am not local but CAN tell you any tattoo artist worth his salt can alter pictures without difficulty.

I have lots and all of mine are custom. He charges £50 an hour for custom work and even suggested improvements in some areas (more mobile areas such as the elbow and wrists where tattoos can become distorted ).

More than happy with the results and would recommend him to anyone:D

How did you all decide where to place your pieces? Thats the one thing I'm still thinking through (anything visable - face, neck, lower arms etc is out for work reasons).

I did my second one myself and all he did was enlarge it to suit my body better.

All I will say is that think carefully about where you have your first one. If your a pain junky, (like me) then I wouldn't worry about that. Just keep in mind that the closer to the bone you have it, the more it 'stings'!

Mine are on the top of my spine/upper back and on my hip/lower tummy/pubic area. Both a bit painful, but loved getting them done.

I want this (without the symbol) on my calf but I have never found someone I'm totally convinced it will look exactly like the picture of a grey blob that won't come off.

As for the picture, I think it would be a great tattoo. It would just need to be simplified a little.

All mine are hidden out of choice. They can be visible if I so decide, but they can remain hidden in shorts and tshirt too.

It depends on the size of what you are having and the design. Some designs only work on flat areas, others only on rounded parts.

So what are you having? Do tell lol. Then I will give my recommendation of placement :D
I have a couple of lil ones, and would never regret them :)

That design will look great in black and grey with some colour highlights.

I'm looking at getting a watch/clock face (classic style) with the time showing when my son was born. I'm going to get his name where the makers name would go and have his birth date as the date.

I was thinking upper arm / shoulder or possibly middle upper back?

Any thoughts, ideally on location (and not how cr@p the idea is)?

Mine is based on that design, I just simplified it, and altered it here and there so it was individual to me.
It's a bit girly for me but when I saw it I liked it. I just didn't want it to be exactly the same, but it was good to have something to work with.

I'd say an upper back placement would suit that peice. Maybe on left or right?
That way if/when you have another you can balance it out on the opposite side.

I would suggest an area the whole design would be visible and not distorted by the curve of the body. Chest, upper arm depending on size, calf, thigh.

I agree if your arms are big enough for it to work, than that's a great area. But with it being a circle the arm might distort the shape slightly.

Main things you have to decide is... When the tattoo is wanted to be visible, how easy it is to show. And do you want to be able to see it any time you want.
Mine are on my thighs, so seeing friends at the Excel who wanted to see the tattoo's became quite interesting lol

I have quite big arms so it may work there...shoulder seems the obvious choice given it's round anyway....though I may square the design a little. Only 'problem' with shoulder, is that it would be rarely visible!

The thing I like most about tattoos is the fact they should be induvidual to the person getting them. I don't follow the rigour of picking a design from a book and saying "want that one". Tweaking a previous design (as in Hysteria's case) or doing your own custom jobby is what I prefer - being a dab hand with a pencil mean't I designed all my own and tweaked them to suit me.

My last one should have only been a quick hour, but was just under two. He was kind enough to only charge me the quoted price though.
