I've got an import MY00 5dr DBM Impreza Turbo and both my wife and myself consistently average about 22mpg. If I drive hard I get about 19mpg and the best I've ever got is 26mpg on a 70mph motorway run across country.

A friend has an identical car imported a few months before mine and he averages 26mpg and frequently gets over 30mpg!

So why the huge difference? Both are run on normal unleaded and my both have the characteristic sooty exhaust.

Apparently Lotus tested the Impreza Turbo on a rig at their factory recently and were amazed at the amount of over fuelling. Apparently it's done to keep the engine cool. I don't take my car on the track or give it a particularly hard time so could it be retuned to improve fuel usage?

My MY98 Terzo does about 25mpg no matter how hard or not it gets driven.

The exhaust always smells like petrol has been poured straight down the pipe.

How much fuel - lots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depends how you drive (country lanes on full moo etc).

Lean out the mixture and you make it more likely to happen which will eventually be fatal - for your pistons at least.

Driving it like a granny doesn't help either, as you glaze the bores (the cylinder walls get covered in carbon deposits) and the valves also get filled with the same crud. Like all performance cars, the Impreza engine needs to stretch its legs on a regular basis.

Personally, I would stay well away from any mod that reduces fuel consumption on an Impreza engine.

I get 30mph easy in Summer and about 27 in winter (when the air iscooler and more dense and the ECU can then pour in more fuel)

I know this sounds granny, but on the 20 miles of crawling motorway I drive to and from work each day, the options to express the full performance of the car are LIMITED

Norm just over 15mpg, high of either 26 or 28 (cant remember which) - required 1 whole tank at &lt;3k rpm (not recommended, as is very boring, done once and never again) low of around 9mpg http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif UK MY00 mod free.

Mine has averaged 24.6 over the 8500 miles since new. That is with mostly country roads and hardly any motorways. Best achieved was 320 miles on a tankful at a steady 80-85 going down to the Goodwood festival of speed last year. How do you gues measure?
You do miles per gallon. That OK, but last time I was in UK I realised that you buy your petrol in liters. So I gave up with all this liter, miles, gallon
How much computer power do you use for the calculation !!!
On the Continent my MY99 use around 11 liter per 100 km.
for track days I'm up to 30 liter for 100 km.

thats around 62 miles per 6,5 gallon (Smile) Or 10MPG

If you work out that a tank on the scooby is 60 litres, and petrol is about 77pence a litre (average), then it costs about £46 to fill (nobody empties their tank totally).

My previous Impreza was 25mpg if I was lucky and the new one I have only checked the consumption for a full tank once and it was 28.9mpg and that is A roads driven reasonably... not many redlines...

If you don't like fuel stations don't buy a Scooby.. I can just squeeze 300miles on a tank and I believe it is the earlier 50litre tank.

I get about the samein my MY00 with 17k miles on it. I got about 28-30 when the fuel crisis was on. I get about 20-22 doing Motorway runs in the morning evening up and down the M40. I also agree the enginee needs to be worked a little to get the best out of it. Took it for a spin sunday morning and it becomes a different car when allowed to stay on boost most of the time. This gives about 10-15 mpg.

300 miles and a bit per tankful with a mixed empty roads/ early morning urban route.

Erm I think around 23/24 mpg.

I don't mind the poor fuel consumption, since as some poeple have mentioned, the Scooby has other merits. It was just the variation in figures over two similar cars that surprised me.

So far the Sccoby has been much cheaper to run than I expected. 22mpg average (expected), £500/year insurance, reasonable service costs, no repairs so far and it only cost £16k new. Bargain!

Re fuel consumption, my MY94 WRX STI I, recently imported from Japan, is averaging about 28MPG, even with commuter traffic thrown in. Mind you, I tend to drive off boost much of the time, as I like to keep the turbo cool, and if my right foot becomes too heavy, I can literally watch the fuel disappearing out the exhaust !

Interesting thing is, my previous car, a MR2 turbo, was exactky the same. Good until the turbo kicked in, but horrendous when spinning. I know that on that particular engine, Toyota overfuel the cylinder to keep the temperature down - I assume the Soobmeister is the same.
