we have a subaru wrx '94 we were driving home yesterday and our power steering went . we have checked the power steering fluid but thats not the problem . Any ideas as to what is wrong would help . thanks everyone . :confused:

sorry if this sounds dumb but how likely is it that the power steering belt has gone and not the pump or do they both need changing .?

Could be the belt, they are suppose to be changed, you will probably notice if it has snapped as it may well still be in the engine bay.

was gonna say, check the belt is still there! normally they whine when old, if its stopped working it does sound like belt snapped.

A broken or missing belt would also stop the alternator from charging the battery, so a big +1 to check that asap.
