Ian at Godspeed will put you right

mickywrx 29 April 2010 09:25 PM

Yes you can just fit 4 pots. :thumb:

If you fit the 4-pots, then you need 293/4/5/6mm discs.

Grooved ones fit the bill - but get 4-10 grooves per side.

20+ grooves per side mean there's significantly less surface area left for the all-important pad/disc contact!

cheers guys may go for 4 pots then. i see a lot of the discs im looking at on ebay have grooved and drilled that can only be good right?

joz8968 29 April 2010 10:26 PM

Nah. Those ones will have invariably had the holes drilled AFTER the forming disc forming process. This can compromise the disc, such that when using decent upgraded pads and getting serious heat into the disc when braking very hard, it can cause radiating stress fractures. This ultimately brings about the discs' demise.

I think the only brand that forms the holes DURING the forming process are Brembo ones. But then again they're mega bucks - IIRC their drilled "Sport" discs in 294mm are around £270!!! (Do look great though :norty: lol.)

No. They will quite likely crack where they've been drilled.

4 Pots will fit straight on and will be a very good upgrade.

We have sold lots of performance drilled and grooved discs without a single issue and they work very well.

We also sell grooved only.

Take a look at our website for what is a available: www.superhids.co.uk

This is a great offer that ends tomorrow: High Performance Drilled and Grooved Discs + Kevlar Performance Pads - Just £94.99!

PM or give us a call if you need any advice or wish to order. 01462 488244 :thumb:

Harrison, it's brakes. :D

Breaks are something I have far too many of, when at <ahem>, 'work'. :D

PM Ian at Godspeed, posts on here as Ian Godney, or e-mail ian@godspeedbrakes.co.uk
Best prices, decent quality German made discs.

Apparently he no longer offers drilled ones due to issues mentioned above, but he DOES guarantee his discs even for track use........and not many can match that!

joz8968 30 April 2010 10:01 AM

Harrison, for what it's worth, I bought these ones and had API fit them about 3 months ago. They're now obviously fully bedded in with the (Dixcel Z-Type) pads and work pretty darn well. No juddering/out-of-round vibrations or anything... yet! lol. Plus they look good behind the alloys:-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUBARU-IMPREZA...item45f0024721 (...BTW, they are the normal silver colour, not gold ;))

You really need to team them with a set of decent pads like Pagid Blue or Ferodo DS2500 to make the most of them though.

You can also get various makes of carbon-metallic pads (Carbone Lorraine, Dixcel, Performance Friction, etc.) for even better performance... But beware, these can spark and eat into the alloys, etc...

make sure the 4 pots fit under your wheels or you could be in trouble.

joz8968 30 April 2010 03:20 PM

Yep, normally get away with 16" or bigger... depending if they have a suitable offset and/or the inside faces of the spokes don't foul.... :(

mickywrx 30 April 2010 06:30 PM

My skanky 16" Speedlines clear 4 pots. :D Only good thing about them. :lol1:
