Scoobies in a hot climate

As early scoobies don't seem too keen on the heat, if I was going to take mine to Spain for a period, is it worth changing certain things to help?

I was thinking about the following:

Front mount (can I get away without a re-map)
Wrap the headers and/or turbo
Fit an oil cooler

The car is a 96 WRX with an Induction kit and full de-cat exhaust and will have a polar performance chip fitted in a week or so.

Any comments/suggestions

Thank Guys

Yes to the front mount, and I'd have a remap if you can.

Mine went bang last year on a French motorway: been doing daft speeds at 40 degree outside temps, came to a toll, had to wait, then caned it away........heatsoak and look mum! No bigend bearings:(

Don't give it beans if you expect to have to stop, ie: near tolls. First time I've had a problem;)

If you intend to drive it enthusiastically in a hot country, then I'd defo get a FMIC and remap. I'd also instruct the mapper to give it more fuelling than normal and/or temper the ignition advance, as well i.e. a "conservative" map.

This would cut down on your power/torque gains (also dependent on the level of other mods fitted at the same time, etc.)... but you'd be building in even more headroom against det scenarios (because of the ambient heat).

And if you get it mapped on ESL Live, then you'll also have the back-up of the OEM JECS ECU IAM feature (can retard the ign timing...)

I'd also fit oil pressure/temp gauges, and also an inlet air temp gauge...

imho early classic imports love the heat ;)

Although mine is a newage, I went round Europe last summer, through france, down to Italy, Austria, Slovakia, Czech, Germany and Belgium.

I have a front mount, and my car didn't miss a beat, and it was really hot in some parts. If your worried just don't hammer it as much. I did though (especially inGermany ;) ) and it was fine.

Thanks for the replies guys, I have already fitted oil temp/pressure gauges, although I haven't yet fitted the temp sender as I need to remove the I/C I believe and I need to find a bit of time.

I guess I can sell the Polar performance chip and a V3 STi intercooler I was going to fit and put the funds towards the FMIC.

Well, that's what I'd do (for what it's worth).

Me too.

But get the map checked once the FMIC is on.;)

I wouldn't entertain running a FMIC without a remap straight after.... even more so in a hot climate!!!
