TD05 BOLT STRIGHT ON
Can i just buy one of these turbos and bolt it stright onto my 52 plate wrx ? iknow about the stright and 90degree bends, I am only guessing i will also need a remap after but can it still be driven with it on with out a remap ?

You'll need a front entry converted compressor.
|
NEW AT THIS GAME LOL whats one for them ? and how much are they can get a td05 for £55
|
The td05 is top entry (upswept intake) and the td04 on your car is front entry.
You can buy a cover from someone line andy f that's been converted to front entry. |
Thanks James

Andy no longer sells the covers on their own. Not sure who does sell them now off the shelf
Local machine shop may be able to convert yours. |

You would have to run it off boost....the TD05 flows a lot more air than the smaller TD04 sibling. OK to drive to the mappers but not for driving around.
It does bolt on after converting to FE but you have to grind a small flange off the turbo housing :) Shaun |
cheers shaun for that
|
Is it just a price issue for wanting a td05?
Do you know that the VF series turbos will bolt straight on and you won't have to mess about converting the intake to front entry. VF35 or VF30 will be relatively easy to come by for circa £250. |
Sorry James.....missed that, I thought the OP had actually bought one LOL
Good thinking, the VF35 from the STi bug would be a straight swap :D The VF35 and the TD05 are very similar in performance :D Shaun |
Andy Forrest does still sell the front entry conversions. I bought one from him by mail order last month.
I got a td05 after speaking to Andy and a few other trusted and well versed scooby owners/racers. The spool up from the 16g is meant to be slightly earlier than the vf34/35, and it can make roughly the same top end. Was also told that the td05 is bullet proof, and easier to service and replace parts if necessary. When i fitted mine last week apart from replacing the air housing to a front entry (£60 or so posted), I also had to re-route an oil feed pipe. You can't simply use the old one from the td04 because it's 12mm coupling and the td05 is 14mm. Everything else with the td05 was a piece of cake, and looking forward to finishing off my high boost map with Andy next week. Hope this helps you make your mind up? |
I`m due to be picking up a classic 2.0 with a TD05 on it, if you want me to take pics, let me know and I`ll send some your way.

Two "minimal hassle" choices:-
1) Same front entry TD04 replacement... + no remap (theoretically, at least)... = std 215bhp... = minimum possible outlay 2) Direct replacement, cost-effective 2nd hand VF35... + decat d/p and/or decat centre (maybe decat uppipe too, seeing as turbo is being replaced ;))... + EcuTek remap... = <c.340bhp :)... = significant extra expense :( "You pays yer money........" ;) |
joz your 2nd choice for the vf35 plus de-cat,will this really produce circa 340bhp? that sounds tempting :norty: i may have to source one of those.
|
milliemoo, which MY and variant do you have? Which mods have you got fitted already, etc... (if any)?
|
simple old bugeye my01 wrx uk. downpipe cat back 2.5 system, very unrestrictive back box lol, green panel in airbox.soon will be doing up and down decat and remap.:thumb:
|
You need to add in larger injectors.....STi pinks are the usual weapon of choice :D
Shaun |
Yep, if you replace your current TD04 with a VF35 and in conjunction with those other mods, then get EcuTek remapped. I believe the Bugeye WRX TMIC can handle around 350bhp and I think you have 440cc injectors as std, so these will max at c.330-340bhp...
What's more, the VF35 is one of the fastest-spooling sub-350bhp tubbies, as well as being a great buy second hand (if you find a decent low-milage one) :) |
It's the Bugeye STi TMIC that's good at flow / cooling when on the move :D
Shaun |
Sure.
But isn't the WRX one okay at handling around 350bhp, though? |
iv had a look about and found one or two but also found a number of companies that sell new in the region of £4 - 500.does this sound correct??
|
There's one on eBay at the mo - from a 52 or 53 plate STi. :)
|
cheers joz your a star :thumb:
|
wow so a decat and a back box, pannel filter, vf35 and a remap will see my wrx doing between 320 - 340 hp ?
Now that does soound good for the money it would cost |
Decent 2nd hand bellmouth decat d/p - c.£80-100
Decent 2nd hand low miles VF35 - max. £350 Panel filter - c.£40 1st EcuTek remap - c.£600+ Budget £1000-1200 (not inc. any hardware fitting costs). |
seems good to me
|
Not bad eh? An extra c.100+ bhp and similar torque gains... And all safe too.
|
got £2k to spend so i would think this is my first mob to do here now
|
Yeah, defo!
You'll have easily enough left over to get some 550cc injectors. I'd defo get them too. That way you'll know that the fuelling won't be responsible in capping the potential max bhp/torque gains... ;) Also with that extra cash, get the Walbro high-flow fuel pump, a new fuel filter and a new set of spark plugs (1 level colder ones, if poss)... |
