Cheap thrills...try this

Spring last year I sold my Impreza Sport that was modified with a few aftermarket parts with the help from Scoobyclinic. It was a car that was cherished and looked after. I sold her in favour of more power, but I was dwindling on whether to get another Impreza, this time a WRX or WRX STi GC, but something put me off and I brought this.

The reason I say cheap thrills is that the car may have only cost me £6,700 but that is not where the costs end. Take for instance a 96k mile cambelt service costing £1200, £470 for a new radiator, £987 for discs and pads and new brake fluid, Angle gear and collar £warranty, two new front struts costing £505.25 ea before fitting, handbrake shoes £154, not to mention tyres at £130 ea and don't get me started on the fuel it drinks which is Shells finest at an alarming rate - 4.6mpg with out even trying.

I suppose thats what you get for a 2100kg AWD 5 cylinder 2521cc Turbo swedish tank. I would love to come back to the fold, but I don't know if I could.

Matteeboy 22 April 2010 11:30 AM

2100kg?!!!!

SC008Y_MAD 22 April 2010 12:08 PM

Yes, the car weighs 2100kg !

mrtheedge2u2 22 April 2010 12:19 PM

Cheaps thrills?????????????? Do I detect sarcasm???? :p

stilover 22 April 2010 12:33 PM

Thanks for the car buying advice grandad.

SC008Y_MAD 22 April 2010 12:37 PM

...to be expected. But I will have you know, Volvos today are brought buy younger people some of which are younger than myself (25). So stereotyping is on the change.

stilover 22 April 2010 12:42 PM

Now they're not strangled by Ford, it appears they want to show Ford what the Focus RS should have been.

That looks like to be a C30 R that lots have been waiting for. If it is anything like the S60R/V70R in a smaller and lighter car, then this will be a car to be reckoned with! Rock on and rub it in Ford's face.

Andy M3 22 April 2010 02:38 PM

The S60R weighs 1600kg's give or take, enjoy it, it looks nice.

SC008Y_MAD 22 April 2010 02:51 PM

Well according to my vin plate, its weighs 2100kg.

john banks 22 April 2010 02:54 PM

That is not the kerb weight of the car though even if it says that. 2100kg is about the weight of an RS6 with a five litre V10 and twin turbos.

Perhaps that is max laden weight?

SC008Y_MAD 22 April 2010 03:09 PM

I have looked in the manual and on the vin plate (n/s/f) strut tower and in the owners handbook for S60 and S60R the weights are as follows

1. Max. total weight = 2100kg
2. Max. train weight (car+trailer) = 3700kg
3. Max front axle load = 1100kg
4. Max rear axle load = 1050kg

SC008Y_MAD 22 April 2010 03:30 PM

I have looked on the V5 and it states under section 4 Vehicle Details under G Mass in service 1689

Is this the weight?

paulwrxboro 22 April 2010 07:53 PM

nice one mate us volvo boys have to stick together ;)

SPEN555 23 April 2010 09:22 AM

4.6mpg lol!

NotoriousREV 23 April 2010 09:56 AM

Bought, not brought ffs

Maz 23 April 2010 09:56 AM

There's not much to commend these big Vulvas aside from ride comfort and fantastically comfortable seats. I had an S80 T6 some time ago and it was very thirsty and not particularly fast. However I'm sure it bettered 4.6mpg though. They are well equipped.

Indeed we do. Volvos are cool whether people like it or not. What Ovlov do you own?

Yes. Still a tank though (heavier than a 5 series :D )

2100kg is the max permissible laden weight (i.e boot full of crud, roof box, or four fat people).

1689kg will be the kurb weight (unladen weight, usually including fluids).

That C30 concept looks very interesting; What the Focus RS (built on the same shared chassis) should have been. If you ever looked underneath a current focus, you can swing a cat under there - as it has room in the centre tunnel and rear subframe for an AWD system - yet Ford don't fit it :cuckoo:

billythekid 23 April 2010 02:04 PM

2100k... Maybe he has a Ballistic protection version.. :Suspiciou (joke its MGVW I know..)

Looks nice anyway... :thumb:

dpb 23 April 2010 02:26 PM

Pity the wont build that volvo - i think its far more appealing than the focus shape

Kerb, not kurb ffs...:p

Matteeboy 23 April 2010 07:15 PM

16-1700kgs is much more like it! It's a looker; I definitely like recent Volvos.

J4CKO 23 April 2010 10:07 PM

I have had a few higher powered Saabs and Volvo's, I do like them but I am sick to the tits of them.

StickyMicky 23 April 2010 10:57 PM

I like it, always liked that shape, speaking of C30`s i had a customer come in today with a tarted up white C30 thing and i thought it looked awesome, apart from the alloys.

davecweed 25 April 2010 07:31 PM

I had one of the 1st ones, as above, it weighted about 1670kg, it does alot better than 4.6 mpg, mine averaged 23/24 mpg, mixture of roads, I had most of the problems listed by op, but had other stuff go wrong aswell, nice car, just a shame about all the problems.

firebug 25 April 2010 08:13 PM

my last car (5years ago) was a 2.5l volvo 850tdi cd. best car ive had, very quick too. 290torque. only got rid because a few things broke, first the cam belt which didnt do any damage to the engine at all. and then the fuel pump, which cost me £800 for a second hand 1 fitted. when i tried selling it no one wanted it, was outside house for 3 months then finally sold it for £1500. looked on autotrader last week and there still going for more than that now. wish id kept it. girlfriends just got a new c30 1.6l R design.. looks great but aint that quick
