Help buying a run around

Hi, i need help on choosing a new run around.

I have a budget of £3.5k £4k at a push for the right car.

I travel 25 miles to and from work each day and a few miles in the evening to and from where ever.

I'm looking for something sensible (read not impreza/evo etc) which will return a reasonable mpg,And something that i won't be tempted to play with.

Perhaps a GTI of some sort :wonder: Petrol or Diesel, i'm not too fussed.

I would also prefer something that was built in this decade.

Other than that there are no other criteria it needs to fulfill.

Can you help ?

Thanks

Brad

I bought a 2005 Focus 1.6 TDCI last year for £3.5k. Not exciting performance wise but nice to drive and gets me ~50 mpg on my 10 mile journey to work.

Buy something which is the best fun you can have on 4 wheels.

Something which doesn't lose any money - if bought at £3500.

Something which will make you smile each time you drive it.

Something which returns 35mpg - even if driven hard.

Something which never, ever goes wrong.

Something you can service yourself with ease.

Something with sensible spare parts prices.

What is this car?

The best sports Car money can buy ......

MX5 good choice, providing you don't have to ferry any kids around etc lol.

Maybe a Jag? S-types can be had for that sort of figure.

I've been looking for a runaround too :D

..someone on here was selling a petrol Fiesta with 35 quid a year road tax at about 4 grand, a well known name as well. About 4 weeks ago..........I'll have a look in the for sale section

We have had a BMW Mini Cooper for some time now. It is a far better car than I expected it to be, good build quality and although the performance is by no means startling (it is not the Cooper S) it seem adequate and it is economical to run. It is comfortable and quiet inside, a good long distance car in fact-unlike the classic minis. The roadholding is particularly good, wet or dry roads.

I have no inclination to change it at the moment and it is worth a look for what you are looking for,

Les :)
