Engine tuning, MY05 STI Blobeye

I have recently bought a 05 sti and its totally standard, not even got prodrive. I want to get some more power from the engine and have been looking and searching on here for a while.

It seems like I need a sports down pipe, cat back exhaust, pannel filter, 3port boost solenoid and a remap. Not forgetting the Walbro fuel pump.

I want to buy quality products, been looking at Fujitsubo, blitz and greddy exhausts but I fear they may be a bit loud!

What have other people done, and what do you recomend.

Id like to get circa 350bhp. :wonder:

Cocker 17 April 2010 07:39 PM

It'll be unlikely you'll get to 350 with a sports cat. I'd go 3 inch decat to stand a better chance. Not saying it wouldnt happen but normally the above mods would get you between 320-340 bhp

wayner845 17 April 2010 07:43 PM

Take a look at mine ,maybe more than your after but worth a look for ideas.

That must be fast, but good to know you can get that power! I dont think im going to go that far at the moment.

340bhp would be good, I dont really want to de-cat the car totally, just get rid of the second cat.

Does anyone make a turbo down pipe with sports cat that removes the second cat all in one? There are so many models of impreza its hard to find what I need on mine

I used to be running 360 bhp on my bugeye STi with the following mods; Tubular headers, FMIC, APS 3 inch turbo back system with sports cat, uprated fuel pump and running a GEMS ECU.

An exhaust with a sports cat walbro pump good panel filter and a remap will see you at 350 on the newage sti

Petey1985 18 April 2010 02:22 PM

I would be happy with 340-350. Its just a question of what products to buy and where to get it mapped.

Im in Bedfordshire, is there anywhere good around here that know what there doing with impreza's?

tearl_2001 18 April 2010 04:45 PM

I went to TSL in nottingham. They fitted a 3.5" full stainless PEES (pulse extraction exhaust system) with sports cat, Ceramic coated headers. I had already changed the panel filter and pump. You will need to book it in when he has a mapping day. Its live mapping and not rolling road. He does a 330 and 350 ish packages with equal amounts of torque. Hope this helps failing that Powerstation in tewksbury do similar packages but are slightly more expensive.

STI Glenn 18 April 2010 05:07 PM

I had a 04 STI miltek exhaust tublar headers panel filter Bob rawle remap 345 bhp

Petey1985 18 April 2010 05:09 PM

So do more people change the headers and not bother with a 3port boost solenoid?

Petey1985 08 August 2010 12:26 PM

I had the car Mapped by Paul @ Zen back in July after I had fitted the following parts:

Walbro 255, Prodrive front pipe with sports cat and decat section, Fujitsubo RM01A cat back exhaust, 3port prodrive boost control solenoid and Cosworth panel filter.

Car made 329 BHP and 300FT LBS.

Very happy with the car, pulls hard with peak boost at 1.5bar and holding at 1.4 to the red line.

NITO 09 August 2010 11:26 AM

I have a brand new set of Fujitsubo headers if you want to go that route!

Cheers
Nito

JGM mapped a car recently, 05 sti with prodrive exhuast system on and a panel filter, it made 353 bhp. Theres a post about it on here somewhere. He said thats one of the best figures he's had from an 05 blob so its definately possible.

your going to need it mate just to stand a chance against me when mines ready ;) what you really want is a set of headers and md321h

05 STi's seem to make a bit more power than the previous model years for some reason.
The PPP exhaust and sports CAT are excellent, will pass the MOT and won't be a restriction as long as you don't want to push higher than about 380bhp. You should be able to pick one up for reasonable money too.
Walbro 255 fuel pump.
High flow panel filter.
A set of FPR7B's (gapped to 0.65mm).
3 port boost solenoid.
Remap by someone who knows what they are doing.

Should get you close to 350bhp.

PS: If you do eventually decide on the PPP exhaust and sports CAT, drop me a PM (I have one which did 10000 miles on a 05 STi and is in great condition).

Sounds good to me, are yours the ones on piston heads that have been for sale for a long time?

That is impressive, I was at Zen in Northampton so not sure about how different the RR is between the 2 places.

FPR7B's?

I already have the PPP exhaust (sports cat an decat) fitted but thank for the offer. Although the cat isnt the best one and the heat jacket is missing so PM me a price for your down pipe!

STiFreak 10 August 2010 08:41 AM

Chubby fingers :lol1:

NGK PFR7B spark plugs (one heat range colder than OE).

Thanks for the offer re the downpipe, but I would like to sell the system complete.

Petey1985 19 September 2010 01:27 PM

Those NGK PFR7B's look quite expensive, where is best to buy from?

3PBS is more to help with the mapping / the mapper. I also uprated the actuator on mine - went off to Turbo Dynamics for them to do something :wonder: I also had complete decat zorst system from RCM :norty:, induction kit, uprated fuel pump, remap.

TX.

I have been looking into the same things aswell!

It seems that 340-360BHP is relatively affordable, the next step up is moon miles away by comparison. I priced up 400/400 at just couldnt see the benefit so have spent a little more getting a MY05 car (as opposed to a MY03) and will have to make do with circa 350bhp :)

A couple of things worth considering that i have found out:

-FMIC kits have been proven to get 10-15bhp more at that sort of spec level, worth considering?
-Not sure about 3-port boost solenoids, not been on my research list yet, any info?
-Silicone Air Intake Pipes help get things to the sunny side of 350, the standard air intake is restrictive and far from optimised air flow rates.
-have never found tubular manifolds very cost/bhp effective, would rather get standard ones ported and polished and spent the extra cash elsewhere.

Cant wait to get my new car (delivery in a few weeks)... luckily it has PPP so a small headstart :)

dunx 19 September 2010 04:42 PM

TBH once I'd been at 340 bhp for 18 months, I wanted more !

LOL

dunx

P.S. Boost solenoid allows better boost control, mine "pulsed" on Elvington over 100mph.
