What ratio coolant to water and how much?

Im just in the process of putting some samco radiator hoses on and I need to know how many litres of coolant is needed and what ratio coolant to water?

I dont have a service manual with it being an import. If I remember right it should say in the Uk manual.

This is on a 03 sti spec c.

Cheers :)

It should tell you on the anti freeze container what the ratio is for the temperature ;) but its normally 60% water to 40% coolant.

Cheers mate , dont spose you know how many litres it needs?

You should normally mix water and coolant 50/50 for optimal corrosion protection. Assuming the entire system is bone dry (it won't be) you should be putting in just over seven litres. If you're refilling with a different brand/type of coolant to the sort that came out it'd be worth flushing the engine, rad and heater matrix through prior to putting the fresh stuff in.

Make sure you use distilled water or de-ionised ;)

Or not.

See page 2 of this.

Your mileage may vary with other coolant formulations but "de-ionised" water is a bit like snake oil in most circumstances - paying over the odds for something unnecessary. Unless you live in a hard water area your engine will be fine with tap.

De-ionised is dirt cheap if you have a dehumidifier ;) though the chlorine seems to be the biggest problem in "soft" water area's but if the detergents in the anti freeze neutralise those so it doesnt leave aluminium chloride? (those white deposits you normally see) then I agree with you split :)

50% coolant 50% distill water
